We were lucky to catch up with Kerry Minter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kerry , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
A risk that was taken, was betting on myself! Naturally I’m an entrepreneur, however it’s so easy to push and encourage everyone else! But there comes a time when you have to look at yourself and use that same encouragement to push a dream ! Putting out music, owning a barbershop, photo shoots, performances. They all were risk for me because they just make you so vulnerable and it all is on you ! The team you have all are lookin at you, and all along I’m praying to God that I’m making the right decisions! God has always looked out ! One thing I’m aware and have experienced with every Risk taken, is if a vision is put in you God will provide provision! So betting on myself and moving forward was a rewarding risk.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For the folks who do not know me, I am Kerry Minter. A Barber by profession, a singer, model, visionary, business owner, writer, counselor, I have a skin care line sold out of my barbershop, and while it being very early in that particular business the plans are to go global. I got in the industry with barber school back in 03’ and started professionally in 05’ . The service industry is very intense. With barbering I meet a lot of people from different walks of life and I am responsible for their appearance ! It’s an honor to be trusted with something so major, but I give my best every time! I’m their counselor, stylist, and with my particular clientele we always end up singing some song during the appointment!
A few years ago I put out an E.P called “Vertical Vibrations”. That album was put out in the middle of the pandemic and the soul of the album was to push peace and let them experience that in their own space . So much was going on during that time I felt led to give that from my soul! Definitely proud of that and the E.P before that called “Reverie”. Theagenda is to push love and peace . As of recently I’ve picked up the guitar, look out for another E.P with me on guitar with the next few years ! Can’t wait to share more!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helped build my reputation in my industry is the quality that I am constantly putting out ! I built my clientele off of word of mouth for sure ! Clients being stopped while being out and being asked who cut your hair !? Social media and posting your work definitely helps !
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Honestly, putting money aside and saving up definitely is the way I went with funding my business! People like a quicker way so they have a lot of investors and that’s amazing to have , but my story was build from another point of view.
