We were lucky to catch up with Kerry Gros recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kerry, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about one of the craziest things you’ve experienced in your journey so far.
The craziest story is about what started my whole business/brand. Covid just hit the world and shut everything down. I was working a job that was classified as an “essential” job. About a month into the pandemic, I had a freak accident in the gym that caused me to dislocate my shoulder (and that’s why you always make sure to warm up before your sets, kids). It left me without a job and any sort of income while I was out hurt. I needed to make some form of money to keep myself afloat. So I watched some YouTube tutorials on how to use Photoshop to design clothing and much more. And the rest is history!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a graphic designer who specializes in designing clothing, apparel, merchandise, etc. but am always open to commissions outside of that realm. I also sell clothing that I design just to practice and keep my mind sharp.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Creating the art itself is a big element. I take pride in every piece that I make. And to hear the client say how happy they are with the design, just makes me happy. Even if it’s just a small piece, it makes me feel like I’ve made some sort of mark in the design world. I know I’m far from being seen as a “top dog” in the industry, but it helps give me hope in making this business grow and expand to the point where I can find my designs in stores across the globe!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The hopes of being able to make a living doing what I love. My mind is constantly thinking of new ways to design. Especially with the huge amount of tools and assets available to designers. I believe in using those tools and turning them into something brand new. Those tools are tools for a reason. Just as long as you change it into something to make it yours and different,
