We recently connected with Kerry Elise and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kerry thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
When working with a new client I always remind them that healing is holistic. Our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health are all interconnected. We as humans like to compartmentalize health but we are a single being. We have to work on ourselves as a whole to truly heal. We often find that when we are in physical pain it affects our mental health as well. If we work on bettering all facets of our lives we have a better chance of true healing.
Kerry, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Years ago, I faced illness and loss. The stress of losing both of my parents in less than a year sent my life into a tailspin. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in my early twenties and the added emotional turmoil had exacerbated my condition. Soon after I embarked on my personal healing journey. I started working with a doctor who helped me get my health back on track with only herbal remedies.
After seeing the power of herbal medicine I started taking formal classes to further my knowledge in herbalism. I decided to get my certification in spiritual life coaching and use the tools I had learned to help others. Along the way I have also gained certifications in teaching meditation techniques and reiki. I try and use a variety of methods to help my clients find their own spiritual practice. It’s not a one size fits all approach.
All these years later I am fortunate enough to co-own Equinox Art Collective, a tattoo collective, and Equinox Provisons, a metaphysical space, with my best friend. In both businesses we look to foster a sense of community. We host classes and events that are approachable to all. Finding your spiritual path can be difficult on your own so we are always here to help support people along the way.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I have always felt manifestation has played a big part in my life. I’ve always loved tattoos as an art form and decided I was going to leave a steady corporate job to work minimum wage working the first counter at a tattoo shop. Instead of leading with fear and went in with an open heart knowing this path would take me where I wanted to be. Early on I met one of the very talented artists, Taylor Anne, and we hit it off. She is more than a best friend or business partner, she is my sister. After working in a couple tattoo shops together we decided to open our own space. Five years after we opened our shop we got the opportunity to move into a 6,000 square foot space and from there we opened the secondary business, Equinox Provisions.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think a lesson we all have to unlearn is we are not who/what others think of us. It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing we are the labels that are put on us. I was never a good student and I allowed that to make me believe I was not good at a lot of things. When I built the confidence to lead with my strengths I was able to step into my true potential. There will always be things we are not good at and that’s okay. We get to decide how our story will go. Following the negative words from others leads us to feel like victims. Allowing ourselves to live in our light leads us to be victors.
