We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kerry Callahan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kerry below.
Kerry, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
As a boudoir photographer, my mission is to empower women by helping them discover their true beauty, both inside and out. I am deeply committed to showing every woman the remarkable beauty that exists within them, just as they are. Having personally grappled with self-image issues for years, I have undergone a transformative journey towards self-acceptance and self-love. Through my own boudoir sessions with other amazing photographers I have found my self-love. It is this profound transformation that fuels my life’s purpose – to share with as many women as possible the revelation of their own unique and inherent beauty. I believe that every woman deserves to see themselves through the eyes of love and admiration, to recognize the radiance that others see in them, and to cherish their authentic selves. Through my lens and guidance, I aim to instill confidence, strength, and self-worth, ensuring that women not only see their beauty but also feel it in the core of their being, thus embarking on their own journey towards self-love and empowerment.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my boudoir photography business after having my own session with another amazing photographer. I had spent the majority of my life picking apart my body and never feeling happy with what I saw in the mirror. After having four babies, you can imagine how I felt. I think it’s how most women feel after growing babies. We are proud of what our body can do but also, it’s incredibly hard to accept the changes our bodies have gone through. I booked a session to see what the experience was like and to try to find some semblance of self love. That session was life changing for me. I was utterly shocked at how beautiful I saw myself from those images. I walked taller and prouder. I felt like I could accomplish anything. It was that day I decided to quit all other genres of photography and specialize in boudoir photography. I build a studio and have been building my business ever since. I average 100 clients a year and I am so proud that I am able to give that many women the gift of self love every year. I have women coming back yearly because the experience was so amazing for them. I meet women with so many different backgrounds and histories and the story is always similar at the foundation. We all struggle with self love and confidence. This journey has been so fulfilling being able to give women the self confidence they deserve. So many have come back and said they felt more confident to ask for a raise at work, or they were confident enough to ask for what the needed from their partners. ALL women deserve to feel this.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Word of mouth referrals are a main source of my bookings. Clients tell their friends about their experience because they have such a beautiful transformation in my studio finding their confidence and self love. They always say the same things about me and the experience. They felt immediately at ease with me in my studio. I make them feel comfortable and safe. We laugh the whole time and I make them feel beautiful.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I have been building a community on Facebook and we’re at over 3,000 women so far who are all on a self-love journey and the biggest part is that they feel safe and comfortable with me. I post many times a day in there from giving them inspirational quotes to help get through their day to posting funny memes. I share the brave women who allow me to use their images to my group to show other women the empowerment movement were creating. It’s a beautoful and inclusive place for all women to find some friends and camaraderie.
