We were lucky to catch up with Kerrie Campbell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kerrie, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I worked in corporate for 25 years and was a global human resources executive. I raised two children (now teenagers) while working full-time and moved my family from Australia to the US for one of my jobs. Because my last position was incredibly demanding, my husband gave up his career to stay at home with the kids, so I was the sole income earner for our family. I never dreamed I would leave corporate, but at the same time, I had been feeling the stress, had dealt with burnout and adrenal fatigue multiple times over the past decade and felt like I had sacrificed a lot of time with my children due to constantly working and traveling over the years. Although I had always loved my career and the amazing opportunities it brought me, I started feeling a disconnection between the work that I was actually doing and my sense of fulfilment, and it felt more like I was going through the motions each day instead of truly enjoying my life. Internally I started to feel a stirring within me to find my true purpose and had a desire for more freedom and flexibility in my work so I could spend more time with and be there for my kids while they only had a few more years at home before they finish high school. So, I did some inner reflection on what my purpose might be, formed my own company and planned to get it started on the side. However, I found outside of the excessive hours that I worked, I didn’t have the energy to really get it up and running, so I came to a decision to resign from my job and leave the corporate world altogether. It wasn’t a decision I took lightly, especially since I was the breadwinner of our family and I had just received a lot of recognition at work from some strategic projects I had led and a large compensation increase. Even though it looked like I had all of the success on the outside, I just knew I couldn’t keep living in a way where I was unfulfilled, stressed, exhausted but insanely busy, and increasing health challenges. After leaving, I decided to take a few months of time to enjoy the summer with my kids and we did a 5-week RV trip across the east coast of the US.
Prior to making the decision to leave my career, I had begun a journey of understanding who I was at a much deeper level, focus on the inner work and started facing my limiting beliefs that had been holding me back from really reaching the full potential of who I am here to be. I realized that I had been living my life in accordance with everyone else’s expectations of me, which had contributed significantly to my habits and behaviors and leading me to attaching my value and identity to my career. This journey had helped me discover my purpose and how I am here to help other women redefine success and living a life they actually love.
After I left, I did a range of different trainings and certifications that helped me to understand how to take my clients through big transformations, where they can get clear on their purpose and potential, understand the root of what is holding them back, heal and rewire their limiting beliefs, and get more empowered to create a life that they truly love that has freedom and fulfillment, whether that is through entrepreneurship or staying in the corporate world. For me, the risk was worth taking as now I get to live my life being my own authentic self, having freedom and flexibility, fulfilling my purpose and prioritizing taking care of myself so I can serve my clients and my family from a place of my highest and best energy.
Kerrie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My background and experience in my corporate career, had always been in people development and growth and I consider myself a life-long learner who had always wanted to strive to grow and improve myself. Throughout my human resources career, I had 25 years of experience in coaching, mentoring, training and leading people all over the world. Now as a Transformational coach, I take this beyond just the workplace and help people with holistic growth, development and transformations that really change the trajectory of their life and their family’s life.
My company, called Live Your Sensational Life has a range of different offerings from one-to-one coaching, and individual sessions and will soon be launching virtual and group coaching programs, all designed to help people move from being stuck and unfulfilled to understand their highest potential and what is possible for them, removing what is stopping them from getting there, and in the process, creating transformational shifts, so they can design and create a life they truly love.
Throughout this work, I use modalities and processes such as; Human Design (which shows us how profoundly unique we are and gives strategies and techniques that help us reach success in a way that works best for us, personally and professionally); PSYCH-K® and Clinical Hypnotherapy, both are fast and effective process to change our behaviors, habits and beliefs to move past what is holding us back and empower us to design the life we really want; Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT); NLP; Akashic Records; and many effective methods that help achieve the results clients are desiring.
I truly believe that by doing the work and focusing on being the best and highest version of ourselves, we have a huge ripple effect beyond what we will ever comprehend. Everything in our life gets better, including our relationships, the quality of the work that we do, the quality of the life we live, the impact we have and the legacy we leave. Given my background and personal awakening journey, I have a unique ability to bridge spirituality with practicality, so the results are real and tangible.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn attaching my identity, value and self-worth to my work. I realized at one point, the reason I was so ambitious and career-driven and why my work was one of my highest priorities, was because that is where I placed my own value. My identity was completely tied to my position and achievements in my job and things like how busy I was, meant how invaluable and needed I was. However, because of this, when things were difficult, stressful and even toxic in the workplace, it impacted me significantly, my moods, my levels of fatigue and my sense of self-worth. I finally woke up to realize that outsourcing our self-worth is never going to allow us to take full responsibility for ourselves and create the life we really want. I found that discovering my true purpose and identity is more about who I am here to be, rather than what I am here to do.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Through my network and referrals. Interestingly enough, this is one of the first places I saw a part of my Human Design really play out in my business. One part of my design explains how key relationships and community is in my life and how most of my opportunities will come through my network. When I first launched my mailing list, I knew everyone on it, even if I had worked with them 10-15 years prior and hadn’t seen them since. So far, my clients have all been people I’ve either known, worked with or referred to me by those I know.
