We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keonia Forbes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keonia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
being a photographer was a big risk taker for me. I was so clueless when it came to photography because i had no knowledge about it. I use to ask around for help to learn but i was turned down multiple times but one day i decided to take that risk and learn everything i could on my own. now when i look back from when i first started til this day. I’m very satisfied with my work. i owe all the credit to myself and ovcourse GOD himself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
i am Ke, CEO/Founder of OfficialKePhotography. i am based in North Carolina but i do travel also. how i got into photography was actually self taught. i did a lot of research, note taking etc. i put myself to the test and challenge myself on what I’ve learned throughout the years. i make sure my clients get the best quality photos that they can always go back to and reflect back on what was going on in that moment. I’m most proud of actually mastering my photography that it has gotten a lot of people attention across the world. What sets me apart from others is that I’ve always been myself. never been in competition with anyone. I’m only in competition with myself so i can better myself at what i love to do.
How did you build your audience on social media?
building an audience on social media can be pretty tough, especially when your Just starting out. with consistent posting and knowing when your audience is more active is very important. once you see these things, your audience engages more each time you post. it took me years to get where I’m at today but with hard work and consistency, you can master anything. My advice to anyone starting out, is to not give up. the road will be tough but you can overcome anything you stick your mind to.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn that you can’t always count on people. people can tell you they will be there or just call on them when you need them. you are your biggest supporter. you are the one who’s gonna push yourself the most and the hardest. I’ve learn that if no one supports you, GOD supports you. you can do anything you put your mind to with patience, faith and prayer.
