We recently connected with Keon Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Keon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To become successful, I Feel You Need Good Social Skills, Ambition, Dedication, and Patience. Me myself I’m an introvert I don’t care to much to spend time with large groups of people but when it comes to business, I overcome that uneasy feeling. Maybe it’s easier because im talking about something I truly love so if the conversations don’t just flow it’s probably not your real lane. Outside of communicating you have to be ready to put in real work dedicate long hours there’s always paperwork and feet work to be done. I feel A team always helps but that’s fits with patience because you want to take your time and build the right team. It rarely happens overnight CxC Been out since 2015 didn’t catch real attention till 2019. So just because it wasn’t an overnight success doesn’t mean you can’t build to be successful.
Keon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Me and my brothers been making clothes since I was 14 just didn’t want to dress like everybody else 100 people in your area get the new shoes that’s out it aint that many option to put together somebody gone dress similar. So, we just cut that out made our own shirts, so we always had an 1of1 that started in 2005. From there we kept Goin came out with an athletics wear called Be Self Built our mother company is Self Built Entertainment. We used to do music we put that on hold now the focuses are clothing, photography, art, and we have a basketball team. as far as Cake & Commas I feel we are different because I offer a lot of 1of1 so people don’t have to look like the next. I want to get a website built so one day you can just go to the website make an outfit it gets made and sent out but there’s a lot in store for the future of CxC I’m only 10% of where i want to be. I would say I’m most proud of how much we have grown the whole SBE community we all our making progress in our own lanes.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Always make your employees feel like there job matters because if it didn’t why would I hire you. Make sure to put them in the right position don’t have somebody advertising when they can be a better designer or artist. If possible give them the freedom to work how they want where they want i like to get together at least once a week and have a team work session otherwise your free to team up or work alone. Plus my top employes get to put in on orders and make a profit back.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Me and my Partner Harvey started in my sisters garage we would order blank clothing or people would bring in clothes. We had two embroidery machines running all day making patches and a sewing machine to put them on the clothes. that’s when I felt I was really making stuff on my own now it wasn’t hard to learn like everybody say go to YouTube. I had a vinyl machine to, so we did custom shop for people to get their logos or whatever else. This was actually the journey to getting the money to deal with a real manufacturer.
