We recently connected with Kenzie Rich and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenzie, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story of my entrance into the photography world is unique to many others. The legend says, “She was born with a camera in her hand.” It’s true – I’ve been taking photos and creating videos for as long as I can remember.
I love what I do! And what makes my job so special is getting to know my clients fully, taking special care to dig deep, find out what makes them happy, and treat their true personalities. Bringing their individuality out through photos and letting them shine is what drives my passion. My ultimate goal with each shoot is to show the client how beautiful they truly are. Many people struggle with low self esteem, and not feeling confident in their own skin. I hope to turn that around with every single person that gets in front of my camera. The look on peoples’ faces when they get to see themselves in the images I captured, makes all the work worth it.
When I’m not out shooting or helping others create their dream business, I love reading a good book, painting, dancing, or being outdoors. I’m always trying new things – pretty much every month, there’s a new hobby that I’m picking up! But even in my free time, I find myself setting up shoots with my friends or meeting new clients. I truly can never get enough!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kenzie Rich, and I’m a Scottsdale-based portrait, fashion, and brand photographer and photography educator. I moved to Scottsdale, AZ from Seattle, WA in July of 2021 and am now a full-time graphic designer, videographer, and photographer, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As a portrait photographer, I make sure that each shoot is tailor-made to the client. I don’t use a personal style or color scheme for all my photos because each person is different, and I want THEIR personally to shine through the shoot.
I am all about bringing visions to life, so if you’ve got some ideas, let me know, and I’ll collaborate with you to create the best shoot possible. If you’re not sure what you want yet, that’s OK too! We can work together to create magic!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I’ve learned that networking is the highest and most effective way to grow your clientele as a photographer. I would say 95% of my client have been through referrals. It can feel repetitive introducing myself as a photographer to literally everyone I meet, but the amount of times I’ve have people reach out because they knew someone looking for a photographer is insane. Putting in time to meet people and build connections is worth it in the end.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
I’m not yet a full-time portrait photographer, but I know I will be one day. I want my portraits to stand out from the corporate norm. Photos of people should be authentic and reflect who the are as a person. My goal is to build up a large enough clientele to support myself, and maybe even start a studio business with multiple photographers.
