We recently connected with Kenzie Elizabeth and have shared our conversation below.
Kenzie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
There are two quotes I think of often: “trust the process,” and “do what you love and love what you do.” Moving through this industry with passion and adoration is so important. There is so much work that goes into the craft, which means lots of time and energy. It’s important to understand that things won’t happen overnight and building a career takes time. Finding joy in those periods when things are moving slower will make the ride more enjoyable. Before comparing your “success” timelines to others, remind yourself that each person’s path is incredibly different from the next. If anyone takes anything from my time on this earth, I want them to remember to take up space and trust their passion will take them exactly where they need to be. That also includes knowing when to say no! ;)

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi!! I’m Kenzie, a performer residing in New York City. I’m originally from the West Coast, where my mother introduced me to the arts. I began participating at the community theatre my mother was directing and choreographing at and became hooked. At 13, I knew I wanted to pursue the arts professionally, but was unsure how. Now, a decade later, I have found myself living a life 13 year old me would have dreamed of, which is wild to think about. I graduated high school early and attended a junior college before transferring to my four year university. In 2022, I graduated with my BFA in Acting from Western Oregon University. This past May, I earned my MM in Vocal Performance: Musical Theatre from New York University, Steinhardt. In addition to theatre, I have a passion for songwriting and composition. Currently, I am working on my third album, which is set to release sometime in August/September 2024.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I began posting more on social media during the pandemic (didn’t we all?) when I had nothing else to do with my time. I went in with no expectations and made content for the pure joy of making content. After about 6-12 months, I had built a community of like-minded individuals who enjoyed similar things as I did. It was then that I started to be more intentional with my content; however, even as I became more intentional, I didn’t sacrifice the authenticity and spontaneity in my posts. I think it’s so important to connect with your audience on a deeper level because social media, when it comes down to it, is a highlight reel. I have found that being as *real* and honest as possible allows the humanity to live within the content rather than become an “overload of consumerism.”

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, seeing the impact my art has on others in one of the most rewarding aspects of why I do what I do. Whether that means folks connecting with my original music or feeling inspired in the theatrical world, hearing about the impact I’ve made on another human being fuels my drive so much. A few weeks ago, I was randomly approached by someone who said they had been following my journey for a while. That alone was enough to make my day, but they then proceeded to explain how I had encouraged them to get back into theatre from taking a break, and how I had completely changed the trajectory of their life from that point forward. Hearing that made me realize just how much of an impact we can make just be simply existing.
