We recently connected with Kenzi Carmel and have shared our conversation below.
Kenzi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Is there a historical figure you look up to? Who are they and what lessons or values have you learned from them?
Although his death happened only a short 20 years ago, Mr. Rogers is easily one of the main historical figures that taught me valuable lessons. Integrating those lessons into my business seemed to natural. Mr. Rogers was always the man that wasn’t in a hurry. He took time for people. He built relationships with them and would be interested in what they enjoyed. The man have a calm demeanor that spoke volumes to everyone he was around. I believe one of the most valuable things you can bring to the wedding industry is a calming spirit and a genuine interest in the people you’re photographing.
Weddings almost always have something go wrong, but when a calm personality is brought into the room it allows problem solving to happen more quickly and efficiently, leaving more time to enjoy a really important day.
Being genuinely interested in people allows them to feel more like themselves in front of the camera, which results in more authentic images of those people.
I guarantee Mr. Rogers would have made an incredible wedding photographer.
Kenzi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Kenzi Carmel – I call myself a professional third wheel (AKA a wedding photographer). I’m a solid Enneagram 2 (The Helper) which comes out strong during every photo session. I want to serve and help my couples.
I love getting to know people and building relationships with my clients! It’s one of the main reasons I love my job. Getting to know them is just as much of a joy to me as photographing them. I want to get people the freedom to be themselves in front of the camera. Documenting the best day of someone’s life is one of the biggest honors. I will always come home from a wedding with a beaming smile on my face – I love everything about weddings, especially wedding cake.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Simply showing up and being reliable speaks volumes. I want my clients to know I’m a reliable and honest worker who wants to give them the best service I can.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Being authentic. I don’t reach out to past clients in hopes to make my business look better. I reach out to them because they’re on my mind, or I want to meet up for coffee. I love getting to reconnect with clients from the past to hear about their life and how things are going. It’s been a privilege to get together with many of my past brides to grab lunch or catch up over a phone call.
