Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kenza Mouahidi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kenza, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
The idea came to me when having guests over for dinner who absolutely loved my food. I realized that my friends were ordering lots of take out, and didn’t know how to cook healthy, delicious meals.
My mother taught me how to prepare clean meals filled with vegetables, super foods and other whole foods. We followed Hippocrate’s philosophy: “Let food be your medicine.”
I decided to share my approach with others. There are many people out there who can benefit from healthy recipes that are easy to make; the concept of clean meals made in a small amount of time so that people could eat well, save money and save time, without sacrificing taste.
And so I am now writing a cookbook.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love to cook, to eat and to teach. Back in Morocco I was teaching yoga and meditation and was taking care of my lifestyle.
When I moved to the US in 2020, I was cautious not to get Covid so I was obsessed with my diet discipline. I was cooking all my meals, buying only organic produce, wild caught fish, organic eggs, taking supplements and wearing a mask. There was no vaccines at that time so I’d better be vigilant. I spent lots of time reading ingredients in supermarkets because everything was new.
When the world opened again to restaurants and gatherings, I kept those habits that helped me maintain my energy.
I observed people’s lifestyle and noticed some problems : people who eat fast food or order out are just very busy and don’t have time to think about their meals. I, myself can’t think properly when feeling hungry and understand how people get easily caught into the foods that are not good for them. I feel how exhaustion, stress and lack of energy make you go for the bad choices. The more you eat inflammatory foods, the more cravings you have and the more toxins you accumulate in your body.
Other people simply don’t know how to cook and will eat the same food over and over again. This is how habits are born by doing the same thing for a certain amount of time before they become a part of your lifestyle.
Others lack nutrition’s knowledge.
To simplify: time, poor habits and lack of nutrition’s education are the main problems and I have the skill to solve them.
The goal is to provide my audience with clean recipes that don’t require lots of time. My followers are very pleased with my recipes and keep asking for more. I am looking forward to the release of my cookbook.
My skill was transmitted to me by my mother who always creates meals prioritizing veggies, spices, olive oil, herbs and beans. As a kid, I enjoyed doing my homework in the kitchen so I could see my mother and grand-mother cooking. My favorite day was “Market day” on Saturday where I would touch and name all the fresh produce.
In my adult life, it is interesting to see that I always pick veggies first before the rest and have a list in my mind that goes like “garlic, onions and herbs for everything; greens for salads and juicing, cabbages for soups, other vegetables for side dishes, fruits for breakfast and snacks and so on.
I feel very grateful when a follower, a friend would send a message thanking me for a recipe and sharing their picture with me. Life is about sharing isn’t it?
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Danny Meyer “Setting the table”. Award winning restaurateur and founder of The Union Square Hospitality Group in NYC. This book helps with customer satisfaction, strong relation ships to your team and leadership
Patrick Bet David “Your next five moves”. How to be persistent and to master strategy. He coaches entrepreneurs and sales persons and his journey is very inspirational.
Gary Vee for building social media presence, authenticity and overcoming fear.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Health is important but we tend to take it fro granted. It takes effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating well, exercising, getting a good night sleep, using tools to feeling better and dealing with everyday stress, building good habits and routines.
We all want to have energy, to feel good and to spend quality time with our loved ones. How can you do it if you are ill?
I believe in this phrase “prevention is better than cure” and one of the preventions is eating properly, getting the good amount of nutrients by emphasizing organic vegetables, organic fruits, super foods, whole grains, seeds, nuts, water,….
Whenever I am going to get groceries, cook or order food from a menu restaurant, I will think about health benefits. “Is it going to serve my health?” “What are the Non-negotiables foods” such as processed foods, seeds oil, inflammatory foods, fried foods.. I am not saying you can’t indulge sometimes but just thinking more about the health aspect when it comes to food.
I will be very content If I can help people with their eating habits and inspire them with recipes.
