We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kenyatta Woods. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kenyatta below.
Alright, Kenyatta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
The bottom line to being to successful is to be consistent and relationships. I’ve been doing this for 7-8 years now and the only thing that keeps me booked is doing the work well and building relationships with people. I started my way just going to every event that was free and just posted my work on social media in hopes that it would get noticed and eventually it did by Nipsey Hussle.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Yatta and I’ve been doing photos since 2017. When I first started I was a freshman at Clark Atlanta University. I was working at the ferris wheel in Centennial Olympic Park as a photographer just taking regular souvenir photos. Eventually I bought my own camera and started going to school events, specifically concerts and live events, to go take photos. After my freshman year at Clark I transferred to Howard and finished there with a Fine Art major.
Something that sets me apart from other photographers is the relationships I have built. A lot of artists are not open to new people in their circle so I’m always happy when others are happy to have me around.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
For the longest time I was not offering video, I was only doing photos and didn’t want to dive in the world of videography. I’ll say the pivot came in when multiple up and coming artists asked me to shoot their video and I said yes. Cause why not? After doing some music videos, I would go to concerts and do small 30 second recaps of the show just to learn how to edit videos and learn how the full scope of Adobe Premiere can be. Now after doing all that I have done weddings, birthday parties, and studio sessions with this transition.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing of being a creative is seeing how much people love the result of the work and that these are memories that’ll last forever that people can keep.
