We recently connected with Kenya Wright and have shared our conversation below.
Kenya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
The craziest story was an elaborate funding scheme that involved winning $27,000 worth of the exact prizes I wanted on the Price Is Right!
Back in 2022, I had just moved from California to Costa Rica and was determined to make my business profitable. I’d started it in 2020 but it was more of a hobby than a career. I had two skillsets: Transformational Coaching and Natural Building. I was lacking a product suite, strategy, and funding. So, I hired a business coach who was also my Reiki and Shamanic Journey Teacher, Dailey Little, and began to wonder where my funding was going to come from. I wasn’t clear on my vision so I felt that grants were out of the question. Then, an incredible sequence of events brought me my signature coaching program and a lucrative win on The Price Is Right.
My brother had been on The Price Is Right a year or two before and was always telling me that I should try to get on the show. He’d won $12,000 and had a great time. But I thought it was too much of a risk, especially with me now spending most of the year in Costa Rica.
When I started working full time on my business with the help of my coach, I had a lot of emotional processing to do. I was deeply afraid to put myself out there, and to make mistakes along the way. In the midst of the emotional processing, I had a resurgence of sexual trauma. I began experiencing nightmares that were far worse than the actual sexual trauma I’d lived through.
My coach suggested I do a Shamanic Journey to rewrite my nightmares into something empowering. I was terrified to go back into these memories, but once I did, I felt like a warrior. I realized, if I could heal my sexual trauma on my own like that, then I could do anything.
A day or two later, a community member shared with me that they’d bought land in Costa Rica with a $25,000 PPP loan. I didn’t even know that loan existed and yet I felt inspired rather than jealous of their success. I asked God, where’s my $25,000? And God said: “On the Price Is Right!” I reached out to the casting team thanks to my brother’s connection and they let me know when applications were going to be open.
I set a reminder in my calendar and applied the moment I was able to. I actually filled out the application incorrectly and had to reach back out for them to accept it. I did my online interview and waited. I was home in California for what was supposed to be 1 month but turned into 3 months. My move in date to my new house in Costa Rica kept getting pushed back. At first, I was frustrated, but then I realized it might be a blessing in disguise because I still hadn’t heard back from the Price Is Right.
Everyday, I used my Reiki practice to visualize myself winning on the show. I jumped up and down and celebrated like I had just won and wrote in my journal 3 times a day that I was going to win. I completed my Reiki Master Teacher training with Dailey and used the magic I learned to deepen my manifestations. I researched previous winners and came up with a strategy.
I wanted to win a car because they typically had a higher cash value than the cash prizes folks actually walked away with. I went into the game knowing I was then going to sell the car and use the funds to put towards my business, Butterfly Bearthworks.
Finally, just weeks before my flight back to Costa Rica, I received a text message inviting me to the audience of the Price Is Right! I made my travel plans and chose to stay in an AirBnb alone, rather than with my friends or family in LA so that I could focus my energy. The night before the taping, I researched smartphone and SUV prices and did another Shamanic Journey. In the journey, I was shown the frequency of abundance. I was told that as long as I remembered to be playful, joyful, and relaxed in my body, I would receive what I wanted.
I got to the show, and remembered my journey every time I got nervous. When we got into the recording studio, they were playing loud club music. I knew that was my moment to stand out from the crowd. I danced the whole time they were prepping the stage. The woman next to me joined in while everyone else stayed seated. Let’s just say, both of our names were called!
When my name was called, it took me 3 tries to make it through the next round and onto the stage. Finally, in the last round, I guessed the correct price on a Google pixel phone and got to play for something big. Remember, I already had a car at home and I wanted to win another one to sell. To my surprise, the car I was playing for – a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport – was a different version of the car I already had at home – a Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid. When they revealed the car, I didn’t know the exact price, but I did know I was absolutely going to win that car because I already had it!
I prayed to my ancestors and they guided me with intuitive nudges for all the numbers I needed to win the car but one. Luckily, I had a few do-overs and they brought me two more prizes – a curling iron to give to my mom, and a smart alarm clock which oddly enough I had been praying for too!!
By the time I received and sold the car for a juicy $23,000, I was working with a 1 on 1 client who I ended up making my signature program, Astral Authority for. I couldn’t help but notice how Womb Healing, Shamanic Journey, and Reiki helped me to win precisely what I wanted on the Price Is Right. I wondered if that combination could help empower other womxn to create their dreams too.
I’m now 5 seasons into teaching my 6 month class, Astral Authority, and have been able to help so many womxn manifest their own metamorphosis miracles with the power of ritual. By going on the Price Is Right, I received clarity on my product suite and funding to keep me going as a I developed my strategy. I can’t think of anything crazier than that in my business!

Kenya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kenya Wright. I’m a Reiki Master Teacher, Shamanic Ritual Facilitator, Earthen Home Builder, and CEO and Founder of Butterfly Bearthworks. I combine ancestral Earth-based rituals with energy healing and self-inquiry to create an enchanting and sensual lifestyle. I provide transformational coaching in Reiki, Shamanic Journey, and womb healing, and I build dreamy earthen homes. I believe in the presence of a spiritual inheritance that greatly outweighs the physical inheritance for each human on this planet. Connecting with your spiritual inheritance is the best way to welcome joy and miracles. I want everyone to walk with this power, starting with all the beautiful womxn and womb carriers in the world.
I’m most proud of the unique combination of metamorphosis miracle producing magic that I’m able to facilitate and train others in. I love that there’s so many ways to work with me. Every year, I host a free 10 day online Chrysalis Creation Challenge where you get to receive 10 shamanic hypnosis meditations, live coaching, and advice from 15+ metamorphosis mentors. Then there’s the 6 month online Astral Authority initiation into Reiki, Shamanic work, and Womb Healing. And for those who really want to complete the system and fully access their spiritual inheritance, I have a Ascension, an online Reiki Master Teacher training and retreat. All of these offerings and more make a profound shift in clarity and confidence for my students.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Butterfly Bearthworks is focused on transformational coaching at the moment and we also build earthen homes. I’m talking about strawbale and earthbag construction, and clay and limestone plaster finishes. I’ve found that although they may seem like totally different industries (and they are), there is a resonance and crossover between the two.
Everything that I offer is earth based and grounded in ancestral practices. Many of my coaching clients found me through earthen construction. And many in my coaching community are planning to build with me in the future. I definitely understand the wisdom of focusing on just one thing, and also if you’re a multi-hyphenate, it’s possible to weave multiple avenues together so that more parts of you can be seen.

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
My favorite marketing story just happened! I was in Creatrix Academy, a business accelerator with Jolie Dawn that included writing a collaborative novel called Dare to Express 3. Myself and 11 other women in the class each wrote a chapter with a transformational story from our lives.
My chapter is called: Beyoncé Saved My Cross Country Bike Trip. It’s about how I biked the 4009 miles home from Brown University to California and almost gave up 3 times. Singing Beyoncé got me through my lowest moments so that I could enjoy what is still the best summer of my life. I ended up finishing the journey, getting clarity around a new career path, and moving on from my previous dream of going to law school. It’s a fantastic and inspiring story.
Because it was a project outside of the core marketing strategies we learned in Creatrix Academy, I didn’t give my full attention to how incredible of an opportunity the book project was. I had my hands full with the advanced learnings I was integrating into my business. As the book launch date approached I got really excited and finally understood the significance of our accomplishment. I hustled to notify the local newspaper and threw a book launch event together at the last moment. I celebrated the launch in my hometown bookstore, Bookshop Benicia, to great success.
A cousin of mine was in the audience for my book talk. At the afterparty, I overheard her saying to someone else, “Kenya’s speech was so good, she should fill in as the Keynote Speaker at our conference next weekend.” I interrupted her because she worked for Outdoor Afro, a brand that had inspired me for years. I’d been hearing about her experience planning this conference for the last 7 months. It turned out that their desired speaker had never been confirmed and my story about biking across the county fit in with the theme of Innovation through the outdoors. She reached out to her supervisors to pitch the idea right then and there and got a positive response.
I flew to Mexico the next morning to view the total solar eclipse with friends in Mazatlan. In the moment of totality 11:07-11:11 AM, my cousin Gina, and her supervisors were in a meeting to decide if I would be the surprise Keynote speaker! I got the yes an hour or so later and was flown out to West Virginia 3 days later to deliver my first Keynote Speech. I now had a live audience of over 100 people listening to my story, hearing about my business, and understanding my heart.
Two in the crowd have asked to host me on a book tour in their hometown and another signed up for my class, Astral Authority. She is absolutely crushing it and seeing results every single week! It goes to show how one opportunity can lead to another and how powerful it is to share your story in print.
Every few weeks since the book came out, I’ve received a message from at least one person who found my chapter and was inspired to make a change in their life. And my social media following has grown to over 13K. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. And I’m sure you can tell that with all this success, I will be writing the full story of my bike trip in my own book one day! If any book agents are reading this, holla at ya girl!
