We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kenya Sheats. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kenya below.
Alright, Kenya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
First of all, putting God first and earnestly seeking him is what I believe it takes to be successful. It’s with him that anything and everything is possible. I know there are a lot of different definitions of what success looks like to others but I have tried doing things my way and it would never really go my way. Maybe for a little while but there was no true peace, happiness, joy, progress, or longevity. I would always seem to feel burned out, less passionate, and unfulfilled.
It wasn’t until I let go and let God. It wasn’t until I gave my heart to Christ and allowed him to lead and order my steps. It wasn’t until I asked God to show me the way and to provide me with the people and resources he has for me for his glory.
I don’t know what this may sound like for those reading this, but God has a bigger purpose and a bigger plan than what we may have set out for ourselves.
Proverbs chapter 16 verse 9 says The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.
Just like Moses, God wants to use us and that’s if we let him. Many are called but only a few a chosen. Not everyone is going to do the will of the Father but if you know like I know, true obedience is better than sacrifice.
I have made many decisions that have altered my path in life and I had to finally keep it real with myself and have those hard conversations, those hard evaluations. I’ve had to change my circle, change my mind, and change my habits so I could ultimately change my life. And I wouldn’t be the person who I am today if it wasn’t for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Kenya Sheats and I am an imperfect person with divine purpose. It’s pretty hard trying to explain exactly what I do because I am amazingly gifted. For instance, writing is my first gift and you can catch me writing and publishing books/journals. Some people reach out to me to write and edit their resume, build their website, or cultivate a compelling promotional flyer.
However, full-time, I am Certified Lash Tech (Junky) and I help to make women look and feel great again by enhancing their natural beauty with stunning eyelash extensions. It’s been two years since I embarked on my lash journey, and boy, has it been a bumpy ride but by the grace of God I’m still here and I’m only getting better.
Now before lashes became my new obsession, I was a Celebrity Journalist and Publicist. I operated and managed my very own faith-based lifestyle and entertainment publication by the name of MyWay Magazine. I’ve covered many red-carpet events like movie premieres, album releases, press junkets, meet & greets, and more. I’ve written press releases for global black brands, people, and businesses. For 10 years I gave my all to assist people in living out their dreams, telling their stories, building their brands, and placing them in the limelight. However, there came a time when I no longer felt passionate or inspired to continue doing such work. No longer did I want to work behind the scenes, so I decided to step away from what I knew how to do best and trusted God to lead me to my next.
After a heartbreak and battling Covid back in July 2022, I was in a very dark place. I was burned out, sick, and tired. I craved for something new. I wanted to be challenged. I had reached my media and entertainment plateau. Suddenly, I found myself fascinated with lash extensions. A flood of videos used to pop up on my Instagram timeline and before I knew it I was HOOKED. It was a ritual to watch lash tutorials before bed, even if that meant I was going to sleep at 3 or 4 in the morning.
Well, one day I came across an ad that was promoting a free in-person lash course. I said to myself “Why not” and signed up. I’m so glad I showed up because this was exactly the challenge I was praying and hoping for. I went to the class with a positive attitude and an open mind and heart. It took me no time to fall in love with the actual lash application process. I went from seeing it on my phone’s screen every night to manifesting it in real-time. I remember investing all the money that I had at that time, which was like $160, and I purchased what they called a “Big Boss Kit” which was filled with professional lash supplies so I could keep practicing at home, and that I did. I remember going home, whipping out my notes, and applying everything I had learned in class that day. Five hours then passed and the rest is history. Did I mention I took on my first LIVE model in just a matter of a few days and I haven’t stopped lashing since?
Adornn is the name God gave me and I will never forget. That’s why there are two “n”s because it’s a reminder of that night I received my new business identity and of course, name. Today, I used Kenya Lash For Me for marketing purposes but Adornn Lashes is my foundation.
At Kenya Lash For Me I offer beautiful lash extension services and just recently on April 19th, I launched my online store that consists of top-tier lash products/essentials from high-performance tweezers, lash glues, lash shampoo, wholesale lash trays, and more. In addition, I am offering lash courses both on-line and in person. Check out www.KenyaLashForMe.com.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I always knew I wanted to have my own lash salon and lash supply store; let’s start there. I also knew that I would be teaching refresher courses for new and existing lash techs, however, I wanted to provide my students and fill my supply store with my very own branded products. So, starting back in December 2023, I took that leap of faith and began conversing with potential vendors who were located overseas. I can’t lie, I was pretty hesitant to send my money to strangers to sample products but once I got started, I couldn’t stop.
I am so grateful and blessed to have found a vendor over in China who is patient with me, and allows me to purchase products without a minimum order quantity as well as let me spend within my budget. It seems to be too good to be true but let’s just say they are Heaven-sent! (want to become a lash supplier or obtain access to my direct vendors, sign up for the “Become The Ultimate Lash Provider’ Webinar at https://kenyalashforme.com/the-ultimate-lash-provider)
When I say my products are so worth having, I mean that! The quality, the durability, the efficiency, it gives “I’m in my own lane, and when people find out about my top-notch products they aren’t going to want to shop anywhere else.”
I declare & decree that KenyaLashForMe.com will always be the go-to source for top-tier lash essentials and I will open several brick & mortar locations, with New York being my headquarters. Just the thought of having loyal customers makes my heart smile because God said this would happen for me and he’s not a man that should lie, He is faithful and will get the glory in my story!
From the beginning to the end, I’ve always had other lashpreneurs on my brain when creating my lash-themed books, when sampling products and choosing what works best, and when saying YES to learning this complex skill.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
One of my most loyal clients has come from me using StyleSeat. This platform has helped me to market my business by putting my business profile in front of potential customers in my surrounding area.
I am thankful because a customer of mine who was getting her lashes done for date night who also is a professional braider introduced me to StyleSeat. She told me that she uses StyleSeat and it has helped to keep her books busy.
StyleSeat is FREE to use. Sign up today and NO this is not a paid promotion, I just want to help somebody just like that lady helped me.
