We were lucky to catch up with Kenny Od recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kenny, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’m currently working on a film titled ‘Living in the Cemetery’, which tackles racial discrimination. This project is very meaningful to me because I’ve seen the harm that prejudice can cause. My goal is to spark important conversations and inspire empathy and understanding. It’s a humbling experience to work with a talented team of individuals from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to bring bring this story to life.
Kenny, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m driven by a passion to tell stories that matter. My films, like ‘Friends Like Sisters’ and ‘The Bitter Sugar’ (now streaming on Amazon Prime and Tubi), are my way of sparking meaningful conversations and inspiring change. I’m proud to have made a statement in the industry, but I’m not done yet. My latest project, ‘Living in the Cemetery’, is my most ambitious work to date, tackling tough issues with sensitivity and creativity. I’m on a mission to push the boundaries of visual storytelling and leave a lasting legacy that inspires future generations. When I’m gone, I want to be remembered as a storyteller who made a difference, one frame at a time.”
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One story that exemplifies my resilience is my journey from starting from scratch as a foreigner in the industry to building a successful career. With a distinct accent and no connections, I had to work tirelessly to establish my network and learn the intricacies of the industry. Despite facing numerous challenges, I persevered, relying on my determination, hard work, and God’s guidance to overcome every obstacle. Through sheer dedication and God’s grace, I have successfully navigated the ups and downs of the industry, transforming each hurdle into a stepping stone for growth. This journey has taught me that with unwavering resilience and a steadfast commitment to my goals, I can conquer any challenge that comes my way.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a profound mission: to share my core beliefs and values with the world, inspiring others through stories that challenge minds and spark meaningful conversations. There’s no greater joy for me than knowing my work has uplifted, inspired, or motivated someone. I aim to leave a lasting impact on my audience, fostering a sense of connection and community through my films. By sharing my vision and passion, I hope to leave a legacy that continues to resonate with others.
