SubscribeWe caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kenneth T. Thomas, Sr. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kenneth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my story! To answer your question: when it comes to success, most people measure their own success by the same measure as their neighbor, (trying to keep up with the Joneses’). However, I believe that true success is more personal. It’s based on not so much how others view you, but how you view yourself. You see, true success is reaching the life goals you set for yourself. To that end, success is seeing your dreams through, trudging ahead, and reaching your own desired destiny. Determine what it takes to be successful, then work hard to achieve it.
A wise man once told me that there are three kinds of people:
1. those who watch things happen,
2. those who make things happen, and
3. those who wonder what happened.
As simple as this concept seems, it had a profound effect on me. And therein began my first feeling of purpose. I knew the day I heard this message that I wanted to be the person who MADE THINGS HAPPEN on my journey to success.

Kenneth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a native of Vicksburg, Mississippi and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. I attended Alcorn State University and matriculated – cum laude – from American Public University. After serving 30 years in the medical field (on both the civilian and military sides), I now own Prominence Management and Consulting, which is a multi-purpose firm offering a host of services ranging from real estate investment, property management, and business consulting just to name a few. In addition, I’m the podcast host of My Two Cents Podcast, as well as an associate movie producer.
The accomplishment that I’m most proud of, besides going to college for my bachelor’s degree and (in progress) master’s degree, is the completion of my bestseller autobiography, “Defying the Odds”. It was a labor of love that I worked on for many years before finally making the move to publish in 2020. I eventually turned the title of my book – Defying the Odds by Kenneth Thomas – into my personal brand.
Because I came up from poverty and broke through many many society pressures, I consider myself to be a living, breathing ODDS DEFIER. I continue to defy the odds every. single. day!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Adjusting is a part of life. Making changes based on the needs of a business is normal and expected. My business experience is no different. In 2019, I pivoted from a long career in emergency medical services & nursing to managing my own company. Formerly called Making All Steps Take Aim, Prominence Management & Consulting officially started in 2012, but needed my undivided attention to be fully successful. This was due to the increasing needs of the business as I expanded Prominence Properties and KTT Traveling Notary. I am proud to say that I am now on the right track. The results of making the required adjustments were beneficial and I am so glad I did!
In the future, I will be further expanding my business into Prominence Life Coaching Services. (Stay tuned!)

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
To quote the great visionary, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.” To mold means to shape, to form, to make something that wasn’t there. It’s very clear to me that if I can inspire and influence others in my circumference through my various business initiatives and books, I can help mold society and hopefully motivate others who come after me; Always using the ultimate guide – the Holy Bible – as my blueprint.
“For with God, nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37.
