We recently connected with Kenneth Rivera and have shared our conversation below.
Kenneth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is often a personal and evolving journey, so defining what it means to you and aligning your actions with that vision is essential. Currently, I believe success often involves overcoming obstacles and setbacks. The ability to keep going despite difficulties, adapt to changes, and learn from failures is crucial.
One classic story that illustrates the elements of success involves Thomas Edison and his invention of the lightbulb. Edison famously faced thousands of unsuccessful attempts before achieving a functional prototype. His persistence and resilience were key—he saw each failure not as a setback but as a step toward eventual success.

Kenneth, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kenneth Rivera and I am a visual artist and arts educator. I was born and raise in Los Angeles, California. As a child I was fascinated by the visually images throughout the city. As a young student I discovered that had a natural ability to capture and emulate images into drawings. As,I grew older into my craft I added painting and sculpture to my abilities. I receive a studio arts degree from California State University, Los Angeles and a Masters of Arts Education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I have taught Art in Minneapolis schools where I enjoy young artist develop their artist abilities. As freelance artist I enjoy working with various organizations as a visual artist, puppeteer and director.
I’m most proud of my ability to provide thoughtful and insightful artwork to a wide range of questions. I strive to offer valuable perspectives and useful information in my artwork. What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A particular goal that drives my creative and artistic journey is to visually bring to life complex ideas. For example, I just finished reading Angela Davis book “Are Prisons Obsolete”. I would love to create a graphic novel that captures the essence of the thesis statement. Ideas like these inspire my work.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a artist for me is creating a visual record of an idea and having others relate to it. Whether it brings someone a smile, a tear or shock, their reaction inspires me to create more images.
