We recently connected with Kenneth Horton and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenneth, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
December 1999 changed my life forever. En route to my third combat tour, the C-130 aircraft I was on sustained catastrophic damage, leading to a devastating crash that claimed the lives of my fellow airmen and friends. I was left grappling with severe PTSD, depression, and numerous medical issues, including pre-diabetes. My health and quality of life had deteriorated drastically, despite once being a semi-pro football player, track sprinter, and champion amateur bodybuilder.
In 2022, a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was my wake-up call. I adopted a whole-food, plant-based diet, which transformed my life. Lowering my cholesterol and blood sugar, I restored my metabolic health and vitality. Now, as a retired disabled combat veteran, I advocate for the plant-based lifestyle within the veteran community and beyond, proving that it’s never too late to prioritize health and wellness. At 61, I am living proof of the power of plant-based nutrition.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Through Esprit de Corps Claims, I advocate for and assist veterans in navigating the complexities of their benefits, ensuring they receive the support they deserve. This work directly contributes to the well-being of those who have served, helping them overcome bureaucratic challenges and access crucial resources. I provide these services at no cost to the veterans.
Meanwhile, UnVeteran Like Conduct serves as a platform for open discussions about veteran experiences, resilience, and the transition to civilian life. By sharing stories of struggle and triumph, the podcast fosters a sense of community and offers valuable insights to veterans and their families.
Both initiatives embody the spirit of overcoming obstacles and giving back, making them a great fit for Canvas Rebel’s mission.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience, to me, is about turning personal and collective struggles into a source of strength—not just for myself, but for others who may be facing similar battles. One of the defining moments of my journey has been advocating for others in the face of adversity, particularly regarding Military Sexual Trauma (MST) claims. While serving in the Air Force, I witnessed firsthand how difficult it was for many service members to navigate the complex and often discouraging claims process. Many veterans who suffered from MST were left without the support they needed due to systemic barriers and lack of awareness.
Despite the challenges, I became deeply involved in helping veterans push through the red tape, ensuring their voices were heard and their claims recognized. Through Esprit de Corps Claims, I assist veterans in securing the benefits they rightfully deserve, offering guidance and support to those who often feel unheard. My podcast, UnVeteran Like Conduct, also serves as a platform to shed light on these struggles, giving veterans a space to share their stories, break the silence, and find solidarity.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
There is a clear mission driving my journey, and it’s centered on service, advocacy, and amplifying the voices of veterans. Through Esprit de Corps Claims and the UnVeteran Like Conduct podcast, my goal is to help my military community overcome the challenges they face, whether it’s navigating the complex VA claims process or addressing the personal struggles that come with transitioning to civilian life.
With Esprit de Corps Claims, I work to ensure that veterans receive the benefits and recognition they rightfully deserve. Many service members, especially those dealing with Military Sexual Trauma (MST), PTSD, and other service-related conditions, struggle to have their claims acknowledged. My role is to guide them through the system, advocate on their behalf, and provide the support they need to move forward.
Meanwhile, UnVeteran Like Conduct is a platform for honest, unfiltered conversations about military life, mental health, and resilience. By sharing personal stories—both my own and those of fellow veterans—I aim to break down stigma, foster community, and let veterans know they are not alone.
Ultimately, my mission is about empowerment: helping veterans reclaim their narratives, access the resources they need, and build a strong, supportive community.
