We were lucky to catch up with Kennedy Scott recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kennedy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
Hands down, Alan Jackson.
My duo, “Carolina Pine,” and I got to tour with Alan Jackson as his supporting act in 2020. While some of those shows were rescheduled due to the Pandemic, the time we got to spend on his tour was incredible. This was our first major tour so the only things we knew to expect were what we had heard from other friend’s experiences, which were “pay your due” types of things. Alan shattered all of those expectations.
We were treated just as he treats the rest of his crew: exceptional. Alan paid us above average, had his merchandise team sell our merchandise, had his manager and booking team help us in many ways, and even let us ride his band’s tour bus and/or flew us to each show. This is absolutely well above the average standard in country music, and we felt so blessed by it.
We will forever remember Alan Jackson as our favorite boss.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I love country music down to my core. My papa taught me to play and sing when I was very young and some of the artists he showed me were people like Emmylou Harris, Roger Miller, Rodney Crowell, and James Taylor. I was immediately hooked and really haven’t ever done anything else. Learning guitar young and always drawn to the traditional country music sound and songwriting I started my first country band in middle school. I have been lucky enough to continue to do what I love every day.
In my career, I have been a big fan of group projects: duo’s, bands, and most recently, a trio called “Three Times A Lady.” As an artist, this has been a project I am most proud of. The other members are two of my best friends, Hannah Blaylock and Lauren Mascitti. We started this band because we love the works Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt did together, and out of pure love for being on stage together, we have been fortunate to find recent successes. We have just recorded a live album at our residency in Nashville at the legendary 3rd and Lindsley, and I’m excited to see what’s next.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. As a person, I have felt called to share the gospel and I am thankful that the gift of music has provided me a way to do that. Growing up my eldest brother got addicted to Heroine, and unlike many, he has found sobriety. I hope that through music I can help other addicts find hope and freedom in Jesus.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I have always felt like a bit of an outcast pursing music. I have even been asked before if I started to play music as “a way to rebel against my parents as a teenager.”
This was shocking to hear, not only because my parents always supported my dreams, but it also made me realize that being a creative is a whole different world many people will never understand. It is hard to understand why someone would move hundreds of miles away from family and friends to chase a dream that “may never work out.” From the outside, it may look uncomfortable to not have things like a steady income or 9 to 5 benefits or a traditional life-style but I’ve never really done things the traditional way anyways. Music gives me more than any steady job could and I love that every one of my days is completely different and I never know what else life has for me. I guess the world just takes all kinds of kinds.
