We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kennedy Renea a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kennedy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents taught me different tips on how to run a business. My mom has a company called Lawanda’s Creations. My dad is an author who wrote his first book called Ene-City. They both are experienced when it comes to running a business. They taught me Networking and Marketing skills. I’m grateful that my parents raised me to become a successful, independent, and kind-hearted person. My parents told me to never depend on anyone for anything.

Kennedy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
How did I get into my business? I first started my baking business in September 2022. I always had a passion for baking ever since I was a teenager. The products I sell are desserts, specializing in brownies. I’m still establishing a clientele in the Charleston, SC, area and started my business last year. What I’m most proud of is that I’ve accomplished many things in my business. I have attended numerous live events and had my first interview in February this year. I want my potential followers to know that whatever challenges I face, I will overcome them and come out on top. Also, I want my potential followers to know that my brand is about making people happy with my desserts.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
How do I build my audience on social media? I started my Sweets By Renea baking page on Instagram last year. As of October, I have 625 followers on Instagram. It may not be a lot of followers to some people, but it is since I started the page last year. I built my audience by posting my content twice a week. I engage with my followers and share other people’s content on my Instagram stories. My advice for those building a social media presence is to post content daily and have the same schedule for when you post content to be consistent. Also, research different articles and watch YouTube videos or TikTok to search for tips on how to gain a social media presence. The last advice I have is never to give up. Building an audience takes work. I’m still building my audience on my social media platforms (TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) Building an audience takes time, and you must be patient.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing my clientele? The most effective method for increasing my clientele is attending live events in your area. This gives you the opportunity to meet and talk to people face to face.
