Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kennedy Kyle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kennedy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. I have flashbacks of me sitting in front of the TV enamored by the musicians and singers I would see, or trying to imitate the sounds that blared through my grandmothers Jeep. I knew at a very young age that music was supposed to be apart of my purpose. Honestly, that’s something I am still navigating, but have no intentions of stopping my pursuit.
I think I finally decided to take music seriously right after college, as I was in graduate school. I had done all the talent shows, karaoke performances, choir ensembles and acapella groups I could have up until then and had somewhere along the way convinced myself I was only ever equipped for small live perfromances. It wasn’t until I moved to Atlanta in 2019 and began working for a label that I ever even considered I could be so much more and DO so much more with music.
Would I have changed how this all panned out? Started earlier, begged my family to put me in auditions and performing arts schools… went to a music college instead of a public SEC university? Maybe. Maybe I should have lol. But I believe in timing and I believe in myself more than I wonder about what “could have” happened. It’s all happeneing exactly the way it’s supposed to. The Joy is in the Journey.
Kennedy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So my name is Kennedy like the President, Kyle like the boys name.. that way you’ll remember it!
I began singing at the age of 6, born in Knoxville, Tennessee, but raised in a small town called Morristown. I began professionally recording and releasing music in 2019 at the same time I started interning with the music label LVRN. This was a time where I was discovering my studio sound and my sound in general, instead of just replicating or covering other artists.
I truly have an appreciation for all genres of music, from R&B to country music, but consider my primary influences to be Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Beyonce, SZA, Aaliyah… the type of artists in that wheelhouse. I released my first EP on my 26th birthday, December 5th, 2019. and was able to garner over 50,000 streams in its first month. My most popular songs from that project would be “F.W.Y.T.” and “Wasted”, but I am grateful to have many other songs out now that have since topped the popularity of my first project with songs like “Feelings”, “Faded” and “Deal”.
I have since relocated from Atlanta back to my home state and where my elementary years were actually spent, Nashville, TN. I am looking to continue expanding my sound and brand with a new project in the works for this year, but also to break into the world of country music at some point. A personal goal of mine is to one day have 2 separate songs trending on the Country and R&B charts… and I think I’m the perfect person to bridge that gap.
We’ll definitely see what happens! But as always, Stay Tuned.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect, is the unspoken confirmations you get from your music. Letting you know you’re in the right place doing the right thing. Seeing a number of streams that you didn’t at all expect to have, having people you’ve never seen or met share your music online, being on stage and seeing people hop up to dance or sing along with you. It’s being a witness to how your music affects the world, at any level. Seeing something you created and invested in, come to life and be appreciated.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely! Aside from the passion of just loving music, I want to be able to help others. I don’t make music for money, but in this day and age music makes money. And money makes the world go around. I have a talent, a gift, that can be used to not only better people in spirit, but can provide a pretty lucrative lifestyle, and too many of us who need homes, need food, need a break, don’t have the option or resources to make things better.
The goal is to live comfortably, while pouring into other people and communities that lack the support. The goal is to have my music be more than a wedding song or a car ride, but to quite literally change lives.
