We recently connected with Kennedy Comito and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kennedy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My first client was booked with me with the help of a baseball players mom. It was an 8th grade dance and it was my first real paid photography session and I was so nervous and so excited. After that, I also photographed the same persons homecoming photos. The mother of the baseball player who first recommended me also has recommended me for many other things.
Kennedy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ken’s Photography is much more then just taking pictures for people. I get to capture memories for people and help them be able to look back on specific parts in their lives. I do all different kinds of sessions and I’m wanting to try some more session types, but my favorite right now is family sessions. With or without kids family sessions are great because you get to capture photos of you and your loved ones so you can look back on them later. I also love taking photos of pets! I’ve taken most pet pictures of dogs but it is so much fun to capture these moments with your pets.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is mostly past clients, my friends/ family, or people who see my work on social media. Half of my clients I already have are from word of mouth, so it is very important to make relationships with people and they can recommend you if someone needs your business.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Advertising is the most important thing when you own a business! I advertise my business at least once a week in specific Facebook groups in my area and I’ve gotten a few clients from that. But, making good, strong connections with your clients is important because if they love your work and have a good relationship with you then they are more likely to recommend you to someone in need.
