We caught up with the brilliant and insightful KennDaBratt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
KennDaBratt , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Well considering I come from a family who did music, while I was growing up I’ve always was intrigued how music can make or break the room . Meaning I love the way my family and I use come together thru music sometimes. I remember going to my granny house during the holidays and she would be playing the drums in her garage while my grandfather played the piano and my cousin stringed the guitar my mom siblings and I used to sing and play on the mic . It was good times
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Well, to tell you guys a little bit more about me I originally come from Fresno, California. I am the oldest of 11. I knew I wanted to be some type of entertainer / business owner just by the way my personality was growing up, i’ve always wanted to do more work outside the box think outside the box, i’ve always knew that we all embody something greater than what the eye holds as I get older, I started to discover my own creativity so I put two and two together if I like making people feel good and I give good advice why not try to entertain them at the same time so I came up with this idea, cause I was inspired by the Queen of rap for y’all that don’t know who that is I mean, I shouldn’t even have to be saying this, but Nicki Minaj of course I was inspired because I saw the light in her that never gave up no matter how hard the family industry or even personal problems were , I saw a light and it’s crazy to say this, but when she released pink print, I remember moving from Fresno, California to Las Vegas, Nevada, and it was things that I were filling inside as a young adult cause around that time I was already about 1615 years old and the things that she would wrap about and pink print and some before pink print because I knew some of Nicki Minaj’s songs while living in Fresno, California, but the type of parents I had or the type of mom I have she didn’t really allow us to watch certain things and that’s not just for Nicki Minaj that’s like all type of music videos and things of that nature if it wasn’t for a child we were supposed to have it we would if we couldn’t even have phones, until about 16 . But I could relate to some of the records I will listen to, and some of those records like save me. all things go. Win again help me realize who I really was and realize my true power and from that day forward, I knew I wanted to be in that spotlight I knew I could do that I could I could make people feel good. I feel what KennDaBratt gives comfortability this is it safe place for people to express themselves no matter what situation I believe I like to make music to empower other people that’s what makes me different from artist today. They just want to empower themselves. I want to empower everyone, including myself.i am proud of how far I came I’ve preformed for the very first time this year 2024 I’ve did collaborations I’ve made a music video I put out record after record and they all is a hit ! I would love to meet more of my supporters and show love back as an upcoming independent artist it’s so hard finding the right team to help with all theses troubles. lol if they are even trouble .. hahaha I call my supporters female (Brattz )and male (brattetz ) my name came from me loving the queen so I wanted to show gratitude in anyway that I could so if she’s Barbie why not be her “Kenn” in the industry lol she already happily married and I’m so proud of her she made me see me for who I am and fall in love with him ! My image may confuse people because they may see me in a 32” buss dwn and other times see me with a fade that’s me being me and if thoes who seem not to like SWIPE UP
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal or “mission” is to be able to not only feed my family and other but also to create a legacy that lives on generations after generations, living the lifestyle I did mother not as accepting of my sexuality with so much responsibility on my shoulders, as a child I didn’t know how much I had on me until I really set back and overlooked my own life. So it’s times like that I keep pushing so when I do decide to have kids they would never and their kids would never go through anything I went thru .!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Everyone’s opinion isn’t for you to take in , everyone’s thoughts on you is just their perception of you it’s not really you, I had to re learn that because as a young adult and child sometimes my family would say harmful things about me that would make me feel if they were possibly right , I had to learn for myself that not everyone opinion about you is always right, if you stand for what you believe in and it’s right GOD life would treat as such , but if your evil and do things out of spite, you will reap what you sow,
