We were lucky to catch up with Kenna Provence recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kenna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
One of the best things about running my own business is that I don’t have to follow a cookie-cutter approach—I get to craft an experience that feels immersive, intentional, and deeply personal for my couples and clients. For my wedding work, that means blending high-end editorial with raw, unscripted moments. I love the polished, fashion-forward look of flash photography, but I also believe the magic of a wedding is in the in-between moments—the way a dad wipes a tear during speeches, the way hands find each other in a quiet moment before the ceremony. So I prioritize both: luxury and authenticity, documentary and editorial, because a wedding day deserves both cinematic beauty and emotional honesty.
For my cinematic experiences—whether it’s an engagement shoot or a creative editorial—I take things a step further. Instead of just showing up with a camera, I build an entire world around my clients. We’re talking custom playlists, intentional color theory, styling choices, even movie-scene-inspired storyboards. I had a couple recently who wanted their engagement session to feel like a late ’90s indie film, so we leaned into grainy textures, vintage styling, and a warm, muted color palette to match the nostalgia. Another client wanted their branding shoot to feel like a Vogue article—so we built out a mood board with dramatic lighting, immersive set design, and a playlist that put them in character. It’s all about creating an experience that feels bigger than just photos—it’s about making my clients feel like the main character in their own story.
Kenna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey! I’m Kenna, and I’m a wedding and portrait photographer who believes in storytelling that’s both intentional and artistic. My journey into photography wasn’t exactly conventional—I got into it after being diagnosed with a form of dysautonomia, and what started as a creative outlet quickly became a career. But early on, I noticed something that didn’t sit right with me: the industry often felt transactional, cold, and overly rigid. I didn’t want to just show up, take photos, and leave—I wanted my clients to feel seen, celebrated, and fully immersed in an experience that felt like them.
That’s what led me to create two distinct yet equally intentional photography experiences.
For my wedding work, I blend high-end editorial with documentary storytelling. I love the boldness of flash photography, the timelessness of film-inspired tones, and the effortless beauty of natural light. But just as much as I love creating those Vogue-worthy portraits, I’m obsessed with the quiet, emotional moments—hands shaking while reading vows, stolen glances during the first dance, teary-eyed hugs after the ceremony. My approach is all about making couples feel comfortable, confident, and fully present, so their gallery feels both stunning and deeply personal.
For my cinematic experience—whether it’s an engagement shoot, creative portrait session, or branding work—I take storytelling even further. I don’t just capture moments; I build an entire world around my clients. That means custom playlists, intentional color theory, styling guidance, and even movie-scene-inspired concepts and storyboards. I want my clients to feel like they’re stepping into a film that was made just for them. Whether we’re channeling a dreamy indie romance, a moody A24 aesthetic, or a retro-inspired editorial, the experience is fully customized to match their vision.
At the heart of it all, I care deeply about making my clients feel loved, celebrated, and comfortable being their full, unfiltered selves. Whether they’re running barefoot through a field or dressed to the nines in a luxury ballroom, my job is to document their story in a way that feels real and cinematic at the same time. I’m endlessly grateful for the couples and creatives who trust me with their vision, and I’m always excited to dream up something new.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. At the core of everything I do is the desire to create an experience where people feel seen, celebrated, and immersed in something bigger than just “taking photos.” I’ve always believed photography is more than documentation—it’s storytelling, emotion, and art all woven together.
For my wedding clients, my mission is to craft a space where they can be fully present while I capture their love in a way that feels both cinematic and deeply personal. I want them to look at their gallery years from now and not just see beautiful images, but feel the emotions all over again—the butterflies before the ceremony, the way their partner’s voice cracked reading their vows, the laughter during the best man’s speech.
For my cinematic sessions, my goal is to push creative boundaries and make every session feel like stepping into a film made just for my clients. Whether it’s a moody, color-driven editorial or a nostalgic, music-inspired portrait session, I want people to see themselves in a way they’ve never seen before—like the main character in their own visual story.
More than anything, my mission is to make people feel something. I want my work to be more than just photos—I want it to be an experience, a memory, a feeling that lingers. That’s what drives me every day.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a photographer isn’t just creating beautiful images—it’s the way those images make people feel. It’s watching a couple get emotional seeing their wedding photos because it takes them right back to the moment. It’s a client telling me they finally see themselves the way they’ve always wanted to. It’s knowing that I get to capture something fleeting and turn it into something tangible, something that holds meaning for years to come.
I think that’s the magic of photography—it freezes time in a way nothing else can. The way a dad tears up before walking his daughter down the aisle, the way a couple looks at each other right after saying “I do,” the quiet moments between all the big ones—those aren’t just photos, they’re feelings, memories, entire stories wrapped up in a single frame.
And with my cinematic work, the most rewarding part is watching someone step fully into a creative vision and own it. Seeing a client light up because they feel like the main character in their own story? That’s everything.
At the end of the day, the best part of what I do isn’t about me—it’s about the people I get to work with and the stories I get to tell. That’s what keeps me inspired.
