We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kenna Noel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kenna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
back in my youth, i went through a lot of mental health issues. drawing was the only escape that i had. when i would draw, my brain went quiet and it was a sense of peace.i realized i wanted to be a tattoo artist when i was 14. after high school, i reached out to a local tattoo studio to come show them my art. i got the position as a tattoo apprentice. i was in this studio for around 8 months and it was a horror show. i would deal with sexist remarks and mental abuse. i was ready to give up. in january of 2024 i reached out to an all female tattoo shop on a whim. i ended up getting and interview and getting a spot there. this new studio has given me the feeling of security i’ve always desired. the owner/my boss is the most kind, strong women i have ever met.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
yes! my dream is to have a private tattoo studio that is a mix of an oddities and curiosity shop! i would love to have a loft apartment above it and just have my own little building. that is what drives me to keep going everyday. as well as creating that safe space for my clients.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect of being a tattoo artist, is doing memorial tattoos. tattoos for lost loved ones, pets, friends etc. these types of pieces are some of my favorites to do. i love giving clients the opportunity to have their loved ones with them forever and it’s truly an honor to be the one to do them.
