We recently connected with Kenisha Darden and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenisha, thanks for joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
A pivotal lesson I gleaned from my previous role at the Atlanta City Detention Center was the significance of thorough documentation. Precise report writing was integral to our operations. It was essential to chronicle events accurately, ensuring that we provided a detailed timeline and recounted events precisely as they transpired, without omitting any particulars.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Driven by necessity, I ventured into this industry. My then-current job wasn’t aligning with my needs, and I found myself with a new responsibility: caring for my premature newborn. This propelled me to seek alternate avenues that would enable me to both provide for my family and be present for my son. The more I discovered about this distinctive opportunity, the more certain I was about pursuing it.
Initially, I never envisioned others working under my banner. But, the frequent queries about balancing work with my son’s school commitments, coupled with a friend’s encouragement (owing to the wealth of knowledge I had accumulated about the staffing service), paved the way. Thus, in 2012, Darden Quality of Works Staffing Service was born.
What fills me with immense pride is our ability to offer what I once yearned for: an opportunity. As a single mother of two, I wished for a flexible role that didn’t force me to choose between my career and my children. Today, we grant that wish to countless parents, allowing them the freedom to balance work and family seamlessly.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Drawing from my journey in establishing Darden Quality of Works Staffing Service and understanding the needs of working parents, what truly solidified my reputation in this industry is my unwavering commitment to honesty and transparency. It’s not just about offering remote job opportunities; it’s about creating an environment of trust. Our foundation is built on genuine understanding and empathy towards every individual who seeks a balance between their professional commitments and personal responsibilities. This personal touch, combined with our dedication to clear and open communication, has been pivotal in gaining the trust of our agents and clients alike.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A significant lesson I had to unlearn was doubting my own potential and worth. The backstory? While starting my business and navigating through the challenges of the industry, I often found myself questioning whether I was on the right path or even good enough. External voices and societal expectations made me feel that if I wasn’t following the traditional route, perhaps I was heading in the wrong direction.
But then, I realized that this mindset was self-imposed. There wasn’t necessarily a dramatic backstory, but a series of small moments where I let self-doubt creep in. Over time, I’ve learned to unchain myself from these limiting beliefs. I constantly remind myself to get out of my head, discard negative thoughts, and believe in my capabilities. Now, I understand that it’s not about fitting into a predefined mold but about trusting my journey and knowing that I am exactly where I’m meant to be.
