We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kenilworth Katrina a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kenilworth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Happy is an understatement when it comes to how I feel being an artist. Being a creator of music is the greatest gift one could ever have. To be able to bring your thoughts to life is a super power that only few have, and I’m 1 of the few.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When it comes to the music industry and me being a part of it, was really not something I had a choice in. My father was a musician/singer and my mother is a poet/writer so their gifts fell on me at an early age. I’ve never had to try to write or make up songs, they have always came easy to me. Even though I was destined to do music, I still discipline myself to write music several times a week, as well as the weekends, and work hard at being a versatile and great Entertainer. I am proud of all my accomplishments, but I’m most proud of how long I have been consistent in this game. I want any and everyone that has a dream to know that it doesn’t matter your age or past, it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is just THAT. There are so many people that gave up on their dreams, or never even had one. So to be able to have a dream and fulfill it, is the best ever. A gift cannot be bought or taught and no one can ever take it away from you. That is the best part.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
No matter where I am or how old I get, the goal remains the same. My mission has always been to encourage and motivate others to follow their dreams and passions. What drives me to keep going is me not being where I want to be yet, and I won’t give up until I am there.
