We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kenesha Cook a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kenesha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Going from idea to execution can be tough if you never get started. The best business advice I received is to just start the business. I think that’s the hard part for people including myself. I knew I had to come up with a plan and just go for it. I started my business during Covid. During this time it allowed me to truly figure out what I really wanted to do with the next phase of my life. I was already making lip glosses and body scrubs for my friends as gifts. So that’s when Kissable By KPC was born. I had the idea to turn it into a business. My friends would also tell me to go for it; which was motivating. I do a lot of pop-up shops for my business, and I love meeting new people and connecting with them.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Kissable By KPC is my baby because I’m creating a brand and a name for myself. I named it Kissable By KPC because I wanted it to sound unique. KPC has my initials in it (Kenesha Panay Cook). My business is a Cosmetic Line that has several products for my customers to choose from. I have Lip Gloss, Matte Lipstick, Body Scrub, Lip Scrub, Body Butter, and Beard Oil for men, I’m exciting that I’ll be adding more products to my line soon. Stay tuned for that. I’m proud of myself for sticking with it. It gets rough sometimes as a business owner but I push through. I love when people come up to me at my pop-up shops and say your the lip gloss lady, or how much they love my products. My products will be in several black-owned businesses soon; which I’m very excited about. My next goal is to be in a big name brand store one day. Walmart, Target, and Pop Shelf here I come. You can shop on my site at kissablebykpc.com and you can follow me at kissablebykpc on FB and IG.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Never give up! It gets hard sometimes but always focus on the end goal. I’ve been stood up for big business meetings, and I always tell myself that this will work out and I just have to keep at it. This is just detour until I get to my final destination.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Social Media is big. You have to be willing to learn new things on Social Media to stay relevant. I post more videos now for my business. You have to put yourself out there to gain attention for your business.
