Kendra, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

What started off as a thorn in my side turned out to be the biggest blessing for not just myself but for others as well. I found myself allergic to store brought products as well as certain foods which I now avoid. I literally itched 24/7 for over 4 years with no cure. Dr’s prescribed me medication topical and internal to no end until my body had enough. From there I begin to make my own soaps and lotions and GOD allowed me to see that I could help many others like myself. So I took courses both business and product base classes to become informed on all things soap. I launched Journey Soap Bar and begin to be able to help so many others struggling with Problematic Skin. It’s been such a blessing to be able to put this with that and experience my customers coming in with problems and leaving out with expectations and hope. The greatest joy also comes from returning customers that turn into family , listening to how their skin feels and how it’s affected how they feel about themselves. It’s a blessing that I’ll forever be grateful for being able to share with so many others. So what started off as a thorn in my side truly turned into a blessing. Our products are handmade with natural ingredients. Our goat milk soap is our baby and top seller. We customize products to our customers needs so that no one ever feels like they are left out!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m Kendra N Wheeler Owner of Journey Soap Bar. We create products to help people with Problematic Skin such as eczema, psoriasis and dry skin.

This Journey has been adventurous yet rewarding as I take pride not only in our products but the fact that every opportunity I get I’m enhancing my knowledge. I handpick all of the oils, butters etc to make sure we have the absolute best products to offer our customers. At Journey Soap Bar we believe ” we do better together ” , so I learn alot from my customers and I encourage them to not just take my word but to look up these things I share with them, so that they may know for themselves. We’re a small but mighty force with everything we feel like GOD has allowed us to do in such a short amount of time. We encourage and embrace all things positive, from our first initial interaction with one another we believe that we will not be the same. If you’re having a bad day and come to Journey Soap Bar you’re guaranteed to leave smiling and in a better place. We have customers that come to our stores just to say hello and take a break away from their day and we love it.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

My husband and I give ourselves an allowance every month and from that allowance , I saved and started my business with 600.00 I’ve found that when you’re just starting out if you don’t have good credit it’s rather hard to get loans etc. Also most banks don’t want to take a chance on new businesses that aren’t already making at least 10,000 monthly. Being a new business can be hard without having capital but you have to be persistent.

Although I’ve been ok with that as I didn’t want to get in debt to start or maintain my business.

Now has it been challenging… whew yes it has but it makes you stick to the plan and makes it in my opinion more organic with the growth. What you put in is what you get out of it. I’ve had the chance to learn my business from the ground up and inside out because I’m building it with the help of the Lord. I believe that makes me appreciate it more.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

So I use Facebook but I’ve learned to use all outlets. In business I’ve had to learn that Facebook isn’t the end all to social media. So I look at all outlets as free advertising and I use them as such. I post everyday on Facebook, Instagram, tik tok, Google, pinterest, yes pinterest and I’m thankful to say that all have In one way or another help me build a great audience. You can pay for advertising , I would just say that be wise and know what you’re doing. ( get help)
