We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kendra Muecke a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kendra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Learning the craft is creatively one of the best approaches we can take to our talents and interests. I often think about how I perceive things. I see things differently than many and the same as many too. What makes my learning unique is defining what authors narrate my life, what music is my soundtrack, and who are my heroes? I always studied hard in school. I strive for as much as I can handle. I learned through studying film, theatre, and writing as my main focus in high school and college. Post college, I studied spirituality, songwriting, guitar, and music. These days, I am speculating going to get my Masters in acting, singing performance, guitar, or music business. When the time is right…

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I love this question! Easiest thing to do is to share an artist’s posts/music on social media. Listen to my music. Go to live shows. Buy tickets and give them to friends who live in the area where we are playing. I think the best way we can support people is by appreciating who they are as person and offering a moment of gratitude for each moment they pop up in your mind… or social media feed.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being me! Through expressing myself in music and media, I am sharing what it feels like to be alive, to feel deep emotions. A reward is working through my anxiety by writing songs that come to life and creating music videos that accompany them. I’ve wanted to do this my whole life. And ultimately, the most rewarding part of being an artist is having a creative voice to impact the world.
