We recently connected with Kendra Lynece and have shared our conversation below.
Kendra , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have wanted to be a photographer since I was 8 years old. My grandfather, who was a photographer, always amazed me with the work he created. One Christmas, my parents gifted me a film camera, and ever since then, a camera has been glued to my hands. When I reached high school, I discovered that people could make a living through photography, and I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do. Initially, I thought I would be working with still life since I was super shy and awkward, lol. However, the summer after graduation, I had the opportunity to assist another photographer with weddings, and after the first wedding, I knew I had found my niche in photography. There was nothing quite like being in such a fun, creative, and loving environment.
Kendra , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kendra Lynece, and I am a photographer specializing in weddings and boudoir. Photography is my passion because it allows me to form deep and transformative connections with people from all walks of life, both for my clients and myself. I believe that everyone craves connection and community, and through photography, I have been blessed enough to cultivate both.
When it comes to wedding photography, not only do I capture once-in-a-lifetime moments and memories but I am learning about the lives of these couples and their unique stories. It’s a year-long journey where I have the opportunity to get to know these beautiful couples and their families on a personal level. The time I spend with them allows me to create a genuine connection and capture their most heartfelt and cherished moments.
Boudoir photography allows me to connect with women seeking to deepen their connection with themselves. It’s an intimate and empowering experience that goes beyond the session itself. By creating a safe and comfortable environment, I help women feel seen and heard, and embrace their true selves and beauty. So while the rest of the world markets to women by stating everything they think is “wrong” with them I get to be on the other side of that letting them know that they are beautiful and perfect the way they are stretch marks, dimples, and all! And the images we create together during their session are a powerful reminder of exactly that!
I have also created a private community where I connect with my boudoir clients and others who are looking for a safe space. This community serves as a place for venting, asking questions, providing affirmations, and daily encouragement. It’s an amazing space where we lift each other up and celebrate the journey of self-discovery, self-love, and self-acceptance.
Outside of photography, I am a mom to the most extraordinary little human on the planet. Thanks to my career, I get to homeschool my son and he gets to school me in Pokemon all day lol. I am obsessed with the TV show “The Office” and I love reading fiction books, especially thrillers and suspense. I am a hardcore believer that the spicier the food, the better it tastes!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When running a business, you constantly find yourself needing to pivot. It could be due to changes in platforms like Instagram, which used to prioritize photos, then videos, and now favors reels. You may realize that strategies that once worked for you are no longer giving you the desired results, requiring you to go back to the drawing board. One of the biggest pivots I experienced was when I became a single mother while managing my business. Suddenly, everything became much more significant than just myself. My career transformed into a means of building a future for both me and my son. It forced me to not only determine the kind of business owner I wanted to be but also the kind of person and mom I wanted to become for my son.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love listening to audiobooks and podcasts about business and things that will challenge my mindset. Here are a few of my favorites off of the top of my head. We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachyl Rodgers, Get Rich Lucky Bitch, Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero, and On Purpose Podcast by Jay Shetty
