We were lucky to catch up with Kendra Littlejohn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kendra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I started my business at a time when I didn’t know what else to do. I had been laid off from my previous employer of 18 years, six months before launching my business part-time. I often say that I have no clue why I didn’t think to start my business immediately after my lay-off because I had dabbled in professional organizing in 2009, working for one client almost the entire year. It was the one thing I knew I would someday come back to.
It wasn’t until a friend suggested that I start an organizing business that it even crossed my mind to do so. After her suggestion and her graciously offering her apartment as the test subject, my business took off.
Sometimes I wish I had started my business earlier, but, because I was also simultaneously going through a separation, I don’t know that I would have had the mental capacity to give it my best at that time. I was literally grieving 2 deaths.
I think the timing actually ended up being perfect.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

We are very proud to have maintained our 5-star rating on Facebook and Google for almost 5 years.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Client referrals have been the best source of new clients for me, with maintaining a social media presence being the second best source.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been my authenticity!
If you’re not being authentic in your business, you won’t attract the people (clients, employees, partners) you thrive with. Showing up as your authentic self is the magnet to enriching your work experience and attracting new business.
