We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kendra Kayliana a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kendra , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?

As I walk this path of life, guided by my faith in God, there’s a burning desire within me to leave behind a legacy that’s more profound than personal success or worldly achievements. I want to be remembered as a woman who inspired others, particularly young women, to break free from the constraints of societal norms and expectations.

I believe that our true purpose lies in self-discovery, and in our early 20s, we stand at the threshold of boundless potential and limitless opportunities. I want young women to know that they can be bold, fearless, and unapologetically themselves. That they can reach for their dreams, no matter how audacious they may seem, because faith and determination can move mountains.

I hope people will say that I empowered women to find their voices, chase their aspirations, and shatter the glass ceilings that still linger in our world. That I motivated them to embrace their uniqueness and never compromise their values. I hope they will remember me as someone who instilled the belief that we are all God’s creations, and in him, we find our strength to rise above challenges.

My legacy is not about what I amassed in terms of wealth or status, but rather, it’s about the lives I touched and the hearts I encouraged to beat with confidence and courage. When I’m gone, I pray that my words and actions will continue to echo in the hearts of those who dared to step into the world with faith in God and faith in themselves, forging their own paths, unafraid of the unknown.

I’m a young woman from the vibrant city of Miami, Florida, and I want to take you on a journey through my life, my passions, and my aspirations. As a little girl, I was captivated by the beauty and glamour that surrounded me. Miami is a place where stunning, hardworking women shine in their careers, and I was deeply influenced by them. I watched them and saw the power of confidence and determination. I remember supporting this one business woman, her name is Oneah. Oneah is Toie’s best friend is Miami, Florida. She sold the most breath taking false lash extensions. One day, on the way back home to my mom, Janet’s townhouse I realized entrepreneur is a career path I would love to take on. That’s when the launch of my lash extension brand launched, K Pretty Blinks. From there I fell in love.

These women, with their impeccable style and unwavering dedication, instilled in me the belief that I too could achieve my dreams, no matter how audacious they seemed. They were not just role models; they were the embodiment of success in their own right. It’s from them that I learned the importance of setting goals, staying driven, and pursuing your passion.

My journey has taken me into the world of beauty and self-expression. I provide a range of services and creative works through various platforms, especially on YouTube and other social media channels. I’m passionate about helping others look and feel their best, while also being a source of inspiration for them to chase their own dreams.

What sets me apart is my authenticity. I’m not just about the external beauty, but I’m a firm believer in embracing one’s true self. I’m not afraid to show my pure, unfiltered spirit because I want my audience to see that being genuine is a beautiful thing. It’s a message I carry with me every day, and I hope it resonates with those who follow me.

How did you build your audience on social media?

My journey into building my presence on social media, particularly on Instagram, started back in 2012, right here in the city of Miami. You see, in Miami, we had this unique perspective on uniforms. While for some, uniforms might have seemed like a limitation, for us, they were a canvas for self-expression and a whole lot of fun.

Miami girls had a knack for taking something as structured as a school uniform and turning it into a fashion statement. It was all about how you accessorized, the hairstyles you chose, and the attitude you brought to it. I embraced this idea wholeheartedly, and it was the beginning of my journey.

One of my biggest influences during that time was the YouTube community. I dove into researching and found inspiration from black women YouTubers who were sharing their hair and style journeys. There was one YouTuber in particular, “ulovemegz,” who I watched religiously. She was like a virtual mentor, guiding me through the world of hair and beauty. Her confidence and authenticity resonated with me, and I knew that’s the kind of impact I wanted to make.

My advice for those just starting to build their social media presence is this: Be authentic, and stay true to your unique journey. Don’t be afraid to express yourself, even if it seems unconventional. Engage with your audience, listen to their feedback, and evolve with them. Consistency is key, and remember that building a presence takes time, so be patient.

Embrace the power of storytelling. Share your experiences, your inspirations, and your growth. People connect with real stories, and it’s what sets you apart in a world filled with social media noise.

And most importantly, find those who inspire you, like “ulovemegz” did for me. Learn from them, but also find your own voice and message to share with the world. Social media is a platform for you to inspire and empower others, just as you’ve been inspired yourself.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Building a reputation within my market, and in life in general, has been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. I know there are many women out there who, like me, have experienced judgment for being that light in the room, for having a confidence that seems to radiate like a beacon. There’s a peculiar thing about confidence – it can sometimes evoke jealousy or resentment in others.

But I learned something invaluable on this journey: the power of authenticity. There’s no greater strength than being true to oneself, even when it seems like the world wants you to dim your light. I’ve realized that I don’t need to shrink myself to make others comfortable. In fact, by embracing my authentic self, I’ve not only gained respect within my market, but I’ve also empowered other women to do the same.

It was in 2019 that I began my spiritual journey, and that marked a pivotal moment in my life. I found solace in my faith and realized that the way God designed me is a gift, not something to be hidden or altered. Through prayer, meditation, and self-reflection, I became comfortable with my true self and the unique qualities that make me who I am.

My message to all the women who have faced judgment for their radiance and confidence is this: Don’t ever let anyone make you feel small. Embrace your light, for it is a gift from above.
