We recently connected with Kendra Hood and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

The name of my business is Plez-Her (pronounced pleasure) Novelties. When I was thinking about business names, there were two main factors that contributed and helped me land on Plez-Her. First factor- my close friends and I celebrated a friend’s birthday with a pole dancing class and we had to select a name for the night. I pondered and my friends ended up choosing the name Pleasure for me. Their reason behind the name was because of my love for learning and talking about the art of pleasure. Second factor- I love a play on words. I knew I didn’t want to spell my business name the correct spelling of it and decided to look up the Webster definition of it and saw the pronunciation of it and the light bulb went off immediately!! These two factors resulted in the name, spelling, and pronunciation of my business.

Kendra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Plez-Her Novelties was a two year business creation. I’ve wanted to be in the adult industry since I was a teenager. My focus as a teenager was to educate about safe sexuality practices and lifestyles. Fast forward to being an adult, I was branded the name by close friends after a night of fun. I spent 2 years researching, product testing, and vendor searching until finally in 2021 at 7 months pregnant; I launched my business.

Plez-Her Novelties provide a variety of adult toys and accessories for the everyday pleasure enthusiast to the beginners in the game.

I am most proud of the Plez-Her Box! I created the box for over a year with the intention of providing security and privacy for all lifestyle customers. I was pregnant when I began designing the box, and all I could think about is the fear of my child getting ahold of my private collection. That was a real fear of mine and I was sure that there were many others who shared that same fear as me. Since the product launch, I have released a total of 5 colors and am currently working on a bigger size.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I built my social media audience by being authentic. Simply being myself is the key factor to growing on social media. I say the things many are afraid to say, but in my way.

My only advice is Find your voice! When I say this, I mean use your personality and lingo to your advantage. Don’t be afraid to be sassy sometimes or confident. Share your knowledge about your industry and enjoy every bit of it!

People will love or hate it, but remember at the end of the day you are you! You can’t be duplicated.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

There are so many strategies out there for everything. My most effective one is networking. Get out and talk to people. You’d be amazed at how many people you will come across that have no idea of what you offer and you can sell them your brand.

Networking isn’t always about secure a sale. Yes, that tends to be the ultimate goal, but I use it as a tool to learn more about people and getting to know people. You never know who you can collaborate with in the future.

Leave your mark and let your work speak for itself. Many of my customers were sent to my site or social media from recommendations from someone I met at a networking event or dinner.
