We recently connected with Kendra Goheen and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kendra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
There was a moment, ten years ago exactly, when I realized that so many of my life choices had been made based on fear. I have been a life coach for 26 plus years so I am open to guidance freely. It was this particular time in my life when the bottom was falling out in numerous areas that were in transition. I was in pain, my mind was cloudy, I was depressed and my health was starting to show it.
I can tell you where in my house and what I was doing when I heard these words ten years ago, “Listen to your intuition for one year and see what happens”. Instantly I noticed the sense of calm as the thought filtered into my mind. I didn’t question the thought, I didn’t judge the thought, I allowed myself to sit with the feeling that thought provided me that I had not been feeling for a long time…peacefulness.
So, for one year, when I was in question about anything or I needed to make a decision, I went straight into meditation/stillness whether it was for a few seconds or half an hour. I would ask for guidance and then listen or feel my “gut” sense for direction.
It dramatically changed every aspect of my life. I finally learned to truly trust myself. Listening to my intuition and the still small voice within, built confidence in my capability to love myself first. It became hands down, the single source of guidance that I always begin seeking.
We tend to think it’s the major life choices and decisions that we need to trust ourselves but it’s actually in every single small choice where we build confidence to make those major life decisions and understand our why.
I took a risk that year by going against the grain so many damn times, all while practicing patience and discernment like they were appendages of my being. It was everything from where is a parking space to should I cash out my retirement. Yeah, super piddly to super duper big. It was a sweaty year!
Moral of the story as they say? It’s a process we humans are not taught. Carl Jung calls it individuation, a road map to our wholeness. The risk for me was to remain small, tormented by pain and suffering or leap into the unknown where oddly enough felt more spacious and expansive. Today, I celebrate. I reflect back on the “old self” years and recall the feelings of those days with ease and love.
I can do it, I will do it, I did it and still am!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Kendra founded a life coaching company in 1996 and focused on researching patterns of behavior in people during transitional and life-changing events. Specifically, how to achieve peacefulness in the body, mind, and soul during and after these events. She started to see that the patterns are associated with our reactionary responses to fight or flight and involve extended variations of a grief cycle.
She has created a powerful, individual, practical, brain-based approach that teaches re-wiring and reframing thoughts. Pursuit of Balance is an experiential lifestyle program that utilizes tools that are pulled from diverse fields of rock-solid science, including epigenetics (thoughts become things), neurocardiology (communication between mind and heart), neuroplasticity (rewiring the brain), and emotional intelligence (expression of authentic feelings).
Kendra founded the program on lifestyle practices and measured hallmark results. Statistical evidence, testimonials and continual contact with impacted individuals show the program has resulted in saved friendships, jobs, marriages and lives. It has also improved school and job performance, health and mental efficacy, and has impacted individual lives overall by providing a sustainable, thriving lifestyle.
The program teaches the tools to overcome self-limiting beliefs so individuals can live with equanimity and confidence.
or I have this from a totally more personal standpoint –
Transformation is a daily process.
It is a process that involves consciousness and staying awake through an experience where you think you are losing your mind at times. And let’s be honest, maybe that’s not such a bad thing.
This is the cliff note version of my story that brought me to my life’s work.
I have lived through great loss and grief. I have caused some grief and I have made mistakes. I have contemplated suicide and despair was once my friend. I have overcome great challenges and I have learned what joy feels like. I have learned what being in an allowing state feels like versus feelings of unworthiness. Great highs and the depths of great lows.
Every single day I make my mental wellness a conscious choice through mindfulness.
I learned to love stillness and Divine guidance.
I stayed curious and open to the possibility of self-healing while I learned to trust myself.
I let go of what other people wanted for me and thought I needed and I began to participate in making choices that served my highest self.
Peacefully accepting what is, what was, and what will be is a learned habit that transcends suffering and painful experiences. Feeling at peace is the result of my stillness practice. This is what I can help you experience, through learning the inherent tools that are within you.
Yes, I still struggle and question my choices at times but it’s not for long stretches anymore. I extend myself the grace of knowing I am human.
What I know to be true is I am a vessel. I would love to help guide you to feeling free. To know and love your true self, to feel joy, to be brave, to show up, and to live the most balanced lifestyle you can. To embody your authenticity.
These things are possible because I am living it. Let me show you how. I am a Life Strategy Coach, Spiritual Director, Speaker and Author.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I reflect on my career from my very first experience making money – babysitting, to currently running a Woman Business Enterprise and I inventory the feel good moments and not so much while working for other people. I have learned a lot and I have had great mentors. Oddly enough not on how to run a business but how to treat people.
Its not complex. People want to be seen, heard and acknowledged. They want to know they make a difference and that what they do matters. I make sure that I manage aligned with my values, the individuals values are respected, and we all can uphold the mission and vision of the organization. We strive to leave perfection at the door and accept, giving our best selves to the role and task we fulfill.
If any of that falters in any way, there has to be an established fostered safe environment where communication can flow easily and dialogue takes place.
We operate as a team and everyone can fill in at least temporarily for someone else and “I am willing” has to be part of your vocabulary.
We stay in touch with each others yearly intentions and meet monthly to ensure we are on point or ask where do we need to course correct.
I am mindful of walking my own talk and leading by example. I always ask my team, how can I be of value to you today?

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being real and authentic. Listening and guiding without the expectation of fixing. Inviting people into a safe non-judging space. We all have a story. Colorfully speckled.
