We were lucky to catch up with Kendra Erika recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kendra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
At a very young age. I knew I wanted to perform, and do something within the creative field. However, I was tone deaf starting out. My parents encouraged me into vocal lessons so that when I did perform for them and their friends at their dinner parties, it would at least sound good. I began vocal lessons around 8-years-old with a professional German opera singer, who laid the foundation for me to build my voice from there.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a recording artist/singer-songwriter originally from South Florida. I got into what I do because of a natural desire at a young age to want to do something creative and something that involved performing. After performing in community and school theater growing up, and singing in local talent competitions, restaurants, and clubs, I found myself wanting to create my own songs, and become my own individual artist. So far I’ve had five top ten hits on the Billboard Dance Chart, one of them charting number one, which was a remake of Laura Branigan’s “Self Control”. My latest original song “Thriller Killer” has reached chart topping positions in both the United States and the U.K., and has amassed to over a million views on YouTube and over 300,000 streams on Spotify. In addition, “Rapture”, another original song has been featured in both Sex Lives of College Girls on HBO Max and CSI Vegas, and has been a chart topper in both the U.S. and U.K. music charts. I’ve opened up for Jason Derulo, and continue to headline perform in both festivals and in clubs nationwide and internationally.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative, for me is being able to work with different personalities and walks of life, so that your perspective and grasp of concepts is more elevated.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Inspiring others in the future to find freedom in being creative and helping the current state of the industry get back to a place of free-flowing thought, independence, and open-mindedness.
