We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kendra Conkle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kendra below.
Kendra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I get asked often where the idea for Scripture Flips came from—and honestly, it was born out of heartbreak, prayer, and a deep desire to help someone I loved.
Back in 2016, I got a call from one of my best friends. She was in a desperate place—panicked, overwhelmed, and convinced things couldn’t be fixed. I’d never heard that kind of despair in her voice before. My friend is a woman of faith, but in that moment, she struggled to focus her thoughts enough to be steadied. She needed help remembering God’s promises and the truth that’s in His Word.
After we talked and prayed together, I got off the phone with a broken heart. I remember standing in the warehouse of the printshop where I worked and asking God, “Lord, what can I do? I have to do something! She knows you, but she needs to have a way to focus on your promises and have them with her in times like this. Something small, focused, and filled with Your truth.” That was the beginning of what eventually became Scripture Flips.
At the time, I had been a graphic designer for over 20 years and sometimes wondered if I’d ever use my design skills to do more than just fill orders. I was active in my church and women’s Bible study and sometimes would have random ideas or thoughts about designing something impactful to help strengthen women in their faith. I also loved making handmade cards, so creativity was already part of how I expressed encouragement. I started designing a prototype for my friend—the very first Flip topic was “Beloved.” It was the message I wanted her to really understand: that she is seen and deeply loved by God. I chose specific verses that spoke to that identity, paired them with watercolor designs, and formatted it in a way she could carry with her anywhere.
It was just a one-time gift…until I made a few more and brought them to our family Thanksgiving gathering that year. I had six topics by then, and when I laid them out, the response was overwhelming. The women (and even some of the men!) loved them. I sold almost all of them right there at the table. That was the first time I realized—this wasn’t just for my friend. There were so many women who needed something like this.
I’ve always had a tender heart toward women who are hurting or walking through something hard. I tend to notice when someone’s not okay. Scripture Flips became a way I could offer support and truth—even when I wasn’t physically present.
I had zero business experience at the time. I’d even said, “I never want to be a business owner” because I thought it looked so far beyond what I thought I could do. But God had other plans. I designed the pages and sourced the materials myself—from the paper and charms to a special large pin so the Flips could attach to a purse or bag. I printed everything after hours at the print shop where I worked, and eventually I registered my business and got an LLC. It was one step at a time.
In the beginning, there were no QR codes—just Scripture, beautifully presented, centered on a topic with a consistent message that women could focus on. Later, I added a QR code for the AudioFlip which allows you listen to the same scriptures (with music) and let them wash over you. I may be biased, but the AudioFlip truly is a different experience from reading and flipping the pages. And as I’m writing this, even more exciting product development is underway. Every new feature comes from asking, “What else would encourage ‘her’ right now? What would help ‘her’ stay rooted in truth when everything feels difficult?”
My heart behind Scripture Flips has always been this: that a woman would pick one up, open to the first page, and feel seen and loved by God. And if not for her, then the Lord would bring to mind someone else who needs it.
The first verse in that first Flip is still a powerful message to me and I hope to others as well:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” – Jeremiah 31:3
That’s the message I want every Flip to carry. And that’s why I believe this was worth pursuing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Kendra Conkle—founder of Scripture Flips and a long-time graphic designer. I’ve been working professionally in the design and print world since 1995, serving a wide range of clients with everything from logos and brochures to business cards, banners, magazines, and more. I’ve always loved hands-on creativity—drawing, painting, ceramics—but graphic design gave me a path to stay creative while also making a living. What started as a practical career choice turned into a lifelong calling to help others communicate beautifully and effectively through print.
While design is still my full-time job, my passion is Scripture Flips, a line of topic-based scripture books created to help women feel seen, supported, and rooted in truth—especially in difficult seasons. Each Flip focuses on a single theme like Hope, Strength, Peace, Grateful, and is designed to be portable, beautiful, and easy to engage with—whether you’re on the go or at home with your Bible. I believe what sets them apart is the focused-topic format and the depth of resources available inside. With a quick scan of the QR code inside the cover, you can access the AudioFlip version and soon, the ExpandedFlip—which will offer additional tools to take your time in the Word even deeper.
Every Flip is carefully designed by me, and while I used to produce them by hand, I now partner with a local printer and a small team of women who help with final assembly. I still warehouse and ship everything from my home—it’s very grassroots and personal. I like having that personal touch with each order.
Many women buy Scripture Flips as gifts—to comfort a friend going through something hard, to encourage a loved one, or to be a resource in their ministry. But they’re just as often used personally: tucked into a purse, displayed on a desk, or opened each morning during quiet time with the Lord. One of the things I care about deeply is not only helping women walk through trials—but equipping other women to come alongside and support women in their lives with the truth of God’s Word.
I think that’s what makes Scripture Flips a little different. Yes, they’re pretty and practical—but at the heart of it all is a ministry of presence. A way to say, “I see you. And more importantly—God sees you.”
What humbles me most is hearing from women who tell me they clung to their Flip during a season of grief, anxiety, or uncertainty—and that it helped them stay grounded in truth when everything else felt shaky. I am deeply honored to be part of that kind of story. To me, there’s no greater privilege.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
One of the most impactful tools I’ve come across for building brand loyalty came from a book I read through a Christian women’s entrepreneur group with Rachel Tenney called the Voca Society. The book is “Never Lose a Customer Again” by Joey Coleman, and it’s packed with practical wisdom—but one takeaway in particular stuck with me.
Now, whenever I receive a new wholesale order, I go beyond just packing up the box. Before sealing it up, I record a short, personal video. I introduce myself, thank the buyer by name, and give them a quick walkthrough of everything they’ll find in their shipment—which is always more than they’re expecting. I include extra signage, selling tips, a Scripture Flips brand stylus pen, stickers, a window cling, and other thoughtful touches to help them feel equipped and supported.
My goal is twofold: I want the buyer to feel like we’ve already met and know that I truly care about their shop and their customers. And I want to build excitement and anticipation as they wait for their shipment to arrive. The response to these videos has been incredible—many store owners tell me they feel like they know me already, and they can’t wait to get Scripture Flips into the hands of their customers.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
This might not be a “resource” in the traditional sense, but it’s a truth I wish I had understood much earlier in my creative journey.
Through the Voca Society, I came to realize something important: I had been carrying the weight of Scripture Flips as if it were entirely up to me to succeed. I believed God had called me to create this product—using my graphic design background, my gift of mercy, and my heart for encouraging others—but then I acted like the rest was all on my shoulders. That mindset slowly intensified and got really heavy. Eventually, it paralyzed me. I backed away from the business for nearly two years because the pressure I had placed on myself was too much to carry.
What I finally learned—what changed everything—is that God doesn’t call you to something and then leave you to figure it all out on your own. He stays with you. He walks beside you. He equips you. He is your inspiration, your provision, your strength, your wisdom, your encouragement. He’s not disappointed when you’re not business savvy, don’t have it all figured out, or when you fail. He’s going before you, and He’s with you.
That shift—from striving to trusting—has made all the difference.
