We recently connected with Kendra Carranza and have shared our conversation below.
Kendra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Since I remember I’ve been excluded of many places simply for being different; My studio is an open house for everyone with all kinds of ideas and ways of expression. It’s important for me to make everyone feel safe and comfortable specially when you want to put out your ideas and express yourself without holding back.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Kendra’s Beauty & Photo Room is the first beauty and photography studio owned by a Latina trans woman in Fort Worth; From doing her own photoshoot campaigns for her makeup line Kendra started to fall in love with photography and the possibilities of how much she could express herself and help others do the same with all her creativity. Our clients love that our studio is a one-stop-shop; they come in, get their hair and makeup done and then we walk over to the photo studio to create beautiful memories with the camera. Clients can also shop for our makeup in person while they’re over at the studio, this mitigates shipping times and the possibility of your order being damaged during transit.
At our studio we have package options for a quick birthday photoshoot by yourself or a full group family photo.
I’m very proud of everything I’ve created as of now and cannot wait to meet other creative clients to bring their ideas to life.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I had to unlearn was to not judge my self and my work too much; after a few years of doing what I love there was a point where I lost all interest and motivation in continuing to grow my brand and improve my work skills simply because I was being too hard on myself. As an artist you need to understand that everyone’s work is different and that what might work for you might not work for them and viceversa; however there is something ‘special’ within you that will always make your clients feel attracted to you and trust in your skills and also keep them coming back to you.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
The thought of always maximizing my revenue and creating more sources of income is always in my mind; although I love having my own photo studio I learned that there are other creatives in the area that are looking for a space to create that’s why I’ve made my studio available to rent at an hourly rate. Here people can rent our studio for as little as one hour and use our entire studio, from the makeup station to everything in the photography studio for endless creations.
