We were lucky to catch up with Kendara Laurel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kendara , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I have been involved in Metaphysics for almost 50 years, but never pursued this career path full time. I always made sure to have another full or part time job to make sure I was provided for. I always did readings, but I began adding more classes in different Metaphysical areas, as time evolved. I also contintued reading at different stores and special events.
When my last job ended in 2009, I decided to pursue this direction more seriously. I started an iIntroduction to Metaphysics Meetup group. Which now has almost 4300 members which meets on line twice a month and invites experts in various Metaphysical fields to share their experience.
So I guess for me, the thing which allowed me to pursue this more seriously, was continuing to develop my gifts and help others do the same.
Re challenges, I have to constantly push myself to really do the best I can, actively pursue getting more clients and being open and receptive to others.
I would tell young professionals, who might be considering starting their own practice, to get out there, and connect with others. Have business cards, flyers, a website. Go to different Metaphysical shops to see if you can read there. Or just as a frequent customer=often a way to get to do some readings. Have confidence and faith in yourself, but always remember that this is all about service. Also make sure to use Social Media when possible. I have three Facebook pages and I think this really helps.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got started with Metaphysics when I was living in Miami and attended a Spiritual Fellowship convention. I had no idea about any of this, but during one of the seminars, a speaker indicated that many people only use 10% of their minds and the rest is Spiritual. This was the key which unlocked my interest in further pursuing Metaphysical areas. I began taking classes, I began doing readings. I moved to Denver in the late 1990’s and continued taking classes and also teaching. Some of the areas I teach classes in are Psychic Development, Healing, Meditation, Manifestation and belief shifting. I also teach an online month Psychic Development class for a group called Awkwardly Zen (which meets in 16 states and four countries). I read at a local metaphysical store, Herbs and Arts, I also have a 4291 Member online ‘Introduction to Metaphysics Meetup group. https://www.meetup.com/denver-introduction-to-metaphysics-meetup/ I love doing readings. I specialize in Belief Shifting, which helps individuals identify and replace negative self sabotaging beliefs with actions and behaviors which allow them to grow. I also am a lifetime student of the I Ching, and love nothing more than sharing this incredible form of Divination with others. I learned it from a native American Shaman over 38 years ago and love sharing it. I am very well known in the Denver Metaphysical Community and have been told by many that I am the person who introduced and taught them to the Metaphysical World. I would be neglegent, however, if I didn’t say that my ability to do this is largely based on my Spirituality and Faith. I am not fnantic, but I meditate twice daily and find this give me an incredible source of strength. Places to contact me are my website,https://www.kendaralaurel.com/, Meetup group https://www.meetup.com/denver-introduction-to-metaphysics-meetup/ Or email [email protected] I guess the thing which sets me apart is that I try primarily to empower people and give them the tools to develop their skills. I always say to my clients ” You have free will. Never let a Psychic in a Bookstore talk you into doing something if it doesn’t feel good to you.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I think the most effective strategy has been perseverance and self confidence. Not in an egoistic way, but awareness that I have a service to offer which can really assist others. Keep ing this goal in mind, I am motivated to be the most effective, competent service provider I can be. I also allow myself to take time to network with others in the field, used a lot of Social Media (I have 4 facebook pages), a website, flyers and business cards.
In a nutshell, I would have to say it is perseverance, networking and marketing. I also have really made an effort to tune into what each client needs the most. If I don’t offer what they are looking for, I will refer them to someone who can help them. As a result others in the business will do the same for me.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I am adept at what I do. I am honest, ethical and I really care. I have also been in the Metaphysical field for over 40 years and have a huge network. I also think my clients know I genuinely care and will always be honest with them. I think all of this has done much to build my reputation. I absolutely love helping people to develop their strengths and gifts which they already have.
