We were lucky to catch up with Kendall Nicole & Reghan Cutler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kendall Nicole &, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
“Tall Enough” is a musical project that we made together during our freshman year of college at Belmont University in 2022 & 2023. The project is coupled together as a song & short film that has garnered over 12K streams on Spotify, and over 1.4K views on YouTube. Tall Enough is the story of the universal shadow that childhood trauma casts upon one beginning to grow into their adulthood– and how the cycle of revisitation back to those darkest days of one’s young years never seems to end. This film is meant to speak to those who feel silenced by it. This project is for the souls that became adults while still children.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Kendall Nicole and Reghan Cutler are two individual artists & musicians, both originally from California and currently attending Belmont University’s College of Music & Performing Arts in Nashville, Tennessee.
Kendall is an 18-year-old LA native, musician, SAG-AFTRA actress, writer, photographer, etc. She was accepted into Belmont at 15 years old all while leading a career in the Film and TV industry. She is currently on a temporary hiatus from acting to attain a degree in Commercial Music & Music Business at Belmont. She intends on continuing the pursuit of her career in a multitude of different ways throughout the rest of school and beyond. She is most proud of her ambition & resilience, and how that bleeds into how she cares for people, whether it be in the professional world or the comfort of her interpersonal bubble.
As for Reghan, her passion for music began at the early age of 8 and has blossomed into several different facets of the industry. As a Music Technology major at Belmont, Cutler has honed her craft over the years to become a variously skilled music producer, composer, singer, and songwriter. Building on her prior experience as an intern filming behind-the-scenes footage for Hendrickson Studios, she continues to hone her skills as an Athletic Production Assistant for ESPN+ at Belmont. Her dedication to perfecting her craft in the art of film is evidenced by her commitment to her ongoing professional development.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Cutler: My goal in pursuing my creative journey isn’t singular. I find immense joy in being both an artist and a composer, providing a level of freedom unmatched by other careers. This motivates me to transform this passion into not just a hobby but a full-time endeavor. Moreover, I’m driven by the desire to utilize my gifts in ways that benefit others. Having loved making music since childhood, I believe any field offers opportunities to make a positive impact. By turning my passion into a career, I aim to enhance not only my family’s life but also the lives of those around me through the music I create as an artist and composer for various media.
Nicole: The mission is a determination to plant seeds of love everywhere my art or my feet reach. I am someone who will only make art when I feel that it is coming from the realest and rawest parts of my soul, because that is where the external impact begins. When it is real is when it begins to help people. I lived in LA for 14 years, and in that time I was a homeschooled child actor. I am still an active member of SAG-AFTRA even now at college, and I absolutely love portraying a story through visual acting in conjunction with something as powerful as music. That’s why I love “Tall Enough” so much– it’s a mix of the two that we spent six months making. It’s raw and it’s real.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Cutler: One significant representation of my resilience is my willingness to relocate to pursue my dream career. Originally from California, leaving home to chase my dreams raised many questions and concerns, especially considering most of my family resides there. Suggesting Belmont University in July 2021 set the stage for the chaos and joy that ensued. The morning in December when I received the letter about my audition results for Belmont’s Music Technology program was filled with anxiety. Despite leaving behind everything familiar, my heart was set on relocating, and upon learning of my acceptance, my decision was solidified. Since moving, I’ve had incredible opportunities, from recording in the historic Columbia Studio A to attending the Josie Music Awards. Although leaving my known life behind was challenging, it serves as motivation to continue pursuing my career as a music producer and artist here in Nashville.
Nicole: Similar to Reghan, I also left California, but at a younger age. My family relocated to another state when I was 14, and my story of resilience begins about a year after that. When I was 15, I was at a very mentally and spiritually dark point in my life, and with the help of my mother, I found an online school and I decided to fast-track and graduate early. For 8 months, I was on my computer almost ten hours a day everyday doing schoolwork, and although it was a serious test to my patience and wherewithal, I think my ambition is the only thing that pulled me through. I graduated at the age of 16 in March 2022 and then started college at Belmont University that fall while still 16. It was extremely difficult to execute, but I’ll never not be proud of the work I put in to get me to where I am today, and I cannot wait to see where that hard-working and fiery spirit takes me next.
