Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kendall Daly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kendall, appreciate you joining us today. Finding those key vendors can often be make or break for a brand. Can you talk to us about how you found your key vendors?
Sourcing for our shop is a very time consuming task. When looking for specific products I personally research and test everything. The products have to have good ingredients, a plastic-free option, and transparency throughout their supply chain. I also give preference to women-owned businesses. We are lucky to be connected to a lot of local makers who have helped create custom products for our shop. It’s a joy to work with others and connect our customers to the hands that make their product.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started Amend Market in 2021 to provide an alternative to single-use plastic waste for Upstate South Carolina residents. The concept is really simple – when I run out of dish soap, I just need more dish soap, not another plastic bottle. So we offer cleaning, personal care and pantry items that can be filled and refilled in any container. Our refillers simply bring in containers they already own and fill up their daily essentials.
Every refill is 100% customizable so our customers can use products that they love and that are good for them (and the earth).
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When Amend was just an idea, I started reading all the business books and listening to all the CEO podcasts I could get my hands on. And although there were probably helpful tidbits, I didn’t realize until later that all that external direction was keeping me from tuning into my “business owner gut”. As the founder, I know this business better than anyone but the more “this is how you run a business” content I consumed, the less confident I felt in my ability to create and build Amend.
It took me a while to unlearn the idea that there is a one size fits all business model. Instead I had to learn that each business has different goals, ideas of success, growth plans, ethics and that will lead to different outcomes. Building a business is literally creating something from scratch and that process is beautiful and unique!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My best advice for building a social media presence is to be flexible! The social media landscape changes so much and it’s important to stay open and adaptable through the changes. As we continue to build our audience on social media, I am still learning what resonates with our followers and what type of content I like to create. Feel the freedom to try different things, see what works and evolve!
