We were lucky to catch up with Kendall And Jalen Ogletree recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendall and Jalen, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
One thing we’re proud of at Happy It’s Ours is that we’re not your typical daiquiri shop — and that’s on purpose.
We don’t do the daiquiri wall or use those premade, overly sweet or powdery mixes you’ll find at most places. Everything we serve is made-to-order, and most of our drinks have real fruit in them. You can actually taste the difference — it’s fresher, smoother, and honestly just feels better going down.
We wanted to create something different. Not just fast drinks in a to-go cup, but something people could look forward to — whether they drink alcohol or not. That’s why we put just as much love into our spirit-free sips and treats. We’ve had folks tell us they felt seen because we had options that still let them feel part of the moment.
It matters to us because we’re not chasing what everyone else is doing. We’re building our own lane, with good vibes, good service, and drinks that don’t feel like an afterthought. That’s what makes us different — and we’re good with that.

Kendall and Jalen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are Kendall and Jalen, we are brothers and the owners of Happy It’s Ours, a package shop in McKinney, Texas that’s all about chill vibes, made-to-order drinks, and good energy. We’re not a bar, and we’re not your average liquor store either — we’re something in between: a to-go daiquiri and cocktail spot where you can get drinks, mocktails, desserts, and a little joy in a cup.
We got into this business out of a need to have something in our community, that most larger cities have; plus, the love for creating fun experiences — not just selling alcohol. We’ve always been about community, creativity, and building something that feels personal. Happy It’s Ours started with the idea that happiness is best when it’s shared — and from the name to the drinks to the way we serve people, that’s the vibe we’ve built it on.
What sets us apart? We don’t do premade mixes. No frozen daiquiri walls. No cookie-cutter formulas. Every drink is handcrafted, made to order, and many of them include real fruit. We cater to both drinkers and non-drinkers with the same level of care — whether you’re getting a frozen cocktail, a mocktail, or a dessert, it’s made fresh, and it’s made with love.
We solve a problem people didn’t always realize they had: the desire for quality, customized drinks in a casual to-go setting, without sacrificing flavor or experience, and most importantly affordable. We’ve had parents stop in with kids for a dessert and a non-alcoholic lemonade while grabbing a cocktail for themselves. We’ve had customers light up when they realize we make spirit-free options that aren’t boring. That means a lot to us.
What we’re most proud of is creating a space that feels good. A business that’s rooted in family, that doesn’t try to be like everyone else, and that still finds ways to evolve. We’re now hosting events like game and movie nights (without alcohol being the focus).
To anyone reading this — we hope when you visit, you feel the love, the intention, and the difference. Because at the end of the day, Happy It’s Ours isn’t just a business. It’s a vibe, a feeling, and a little reminder to celebrate the good moments — big or small.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Absolutely. When we first opened Happy It’s Ours, we started as a mixed beverage location and partnered with an independent vendor to offer food. At the time, we thought the food and drinks together would create the perfect combo — but it just didn’t work the way we hoped. The partnership wasn’t consistent, and it affected how customers experienced our space.
But we had already invested so much time, effort, and heart into building the business that closing wasn’t an option. So, we pivoted. We shifted our focus fully to the drinks — daiquiris, cocktails, spirit-free options, and desserts — and decided to own that lane completely.
That change gave us clarity. We simplified our operations, tightened up the menu, and started highlighting what made us different: fresh, made-to-order drinks, real ingredients, and a chill vibe that welcomes everyone. Letting go of what wasn’t working gave us room to grow into what we really wanted to be — and our customers felt that shift too.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Starting Happy It’s Ours was truly a family effort. Kendall, who owns a final mile delivery business, took on extra work and long hours to set aside the capital we needed to get things off the ground. He carried most of the financial load in the beginning because Jalen was still a full-time college student and couldn’t contribute financially at the time.
But we weren’t alone — our parents and grandmother stepped in to help as well. They supported us in every way they could, whether it was helping with bills, offering guidance, or just encouraging us to keep pushing. It wasn’t backed by big investors — just love, faith, and a lot of hustle.
That kind of support is priceless. It reminded us that even if we didn’t have deep pockets, we had a deep foundation — and that’s why we’re Happy It’s Ours today!
