We were lucky to catch up with Kendale Walker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kendale , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Risks are tough…..I take a risk every time I walk on a stage. You never know who you will be singing to and whether or not they will like you. First of all it’s It is very hard being sixteen and trying to book a gig to be able to sing at. People don’t trust I can sing at such a young age then to get on the stage in front of patrons is also a big risk. If I can get people to have faith and take the risk on me being on stage I feel they would be happy with what they hear and see

Kendale , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My story begins when I was 7 years old. I loved to listen to singers at sporting events singing the National Anthem. When it would be on tv I would listen then stop the tv, write what they sang then pushed play and listen again. I did this over and over till I wrote out the entire Anthem. It wasn’t till I was 8 years old that I was helping my family at a grand opening and my parents didn’t know what I could do while working at the grand opening so they had me hold the door open for patrons and sang to them to “come on in” to the tune of Frozen’s “Let it Go”. An employee at the time who was holding the doors with me kept telling my parents that day that I could really hold a tune at such a young age, even the customers were saying I could sing. And so my parents put me on voice lessons and here I am doing what I love.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to be on the stage for the world to hear me sing….what drives me is being able to do that and show others that they to can follow their dream and work hard for it. I was a very shy person when I was younger and actually still am at times but when I am on stage I am not. So I want to encourage others to do work hard and know that they can do the same. It’s a lot of work but it is fun!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my personal opinion it think that society can help support artists by spreading the word about the artist telling others via social media, letting other venues know about named artist and just word of mouth. It’s hard to be just one person trying to spread the word about an artist but if others can help it would be a great way to support them!! Social media is a huge way to help spread the word about artist!
