We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ken Stevenson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ken thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Yes, a name is everything and I get asked that question quite frequently. When I was first deciding on the name for my business I wanted something that was ambiguous and stood out. When I was doing my research, it seemed that most of video production businesses I came across all contained media, visuals or shot by. I wanted a name that would spark dialogue and curiosity. So I meditated on it for a few days. I eventually recalled a time where one of my clients described my style as this dance of seduction between the me, the camera and the subject. That’s Casanova. And then they followed with “you’re a monster”. I then thought, Frankenstein is one of favorite monsters so I dropped the an and put the two together. Casanova Frnkenstein. It’s the perfect moniker for the duality in my style.

Ken , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always had a love for movies and music videos but I was more intrigued by the process it took to create them. I watched anything BTS(Behind the Scenes) I could get my hands on. I took note of what camera was being used, the lighting, sound, and the special effects. I fell in love with the sweet science. I took up video and audio production at the Art Institute of Atlanta where I learned about how important the relationship that audio has to video. I learned about how different sounds have certain frequencies that can affect mood.
After finishing school, I was unable to secure a job in my field so I went into property management. I worked in leasing for 5 years until finally the lightbulb went off and I quit my job. I’ll never forgot how freeing it felt. There was no plan but I knew I wanted to go full time in video production and was ready to do what it took to be successful. I wanted to get paid to create. As soon as I decided to make that commitment, doors seems to open up for me. I was able to tap into my network and I’ve been full time now for 5 years. I started Casanova Frnkenstein LLC on last year I haven’t looked back. I worked with clients such as Delta, Bentley, and the Miguel Wilson Collection just to name a few.
I concentrate in video services but I do offer photography services as well sound design. I’m pride myself on being fearless and not afraid of failing. I don’t feel alive unless I’m creating. I’m blessed and fortunate to get paid to do what I’m passionate about. I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that what sets Casanova Frnkenstein apart from other cinematographers is my story telling and attention to detail.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I had a better understanding of how big of a role Networking plays in my field. I was once told back in college by my instructor that it’s 15% talent and 75% networking. I get about 70% of my work from networking and word of mouth.
