We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ken Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ken below.
Alright, Ken thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The initial idea for Firelite came from our desire to provide an affordable yet just-as-high-quality alternative to traditional photography and videography businesses. We looked around and saw a lot of companies charging exorbitant prices for photo and video services, which we knew from our experience in the film industry were too high.
We wanted to become the premier service where someone can fulfill all of their photo and video needs. From commercials to headshots to branding photos and much more. Anything a business or person could need, we can provide it.
In launching the business, we knew there was a lot to learn and saw a mountain in front of us, but put the first foot forward and started building the structure from the ground up. We started offering services to those in our network and used these opportunities to build on the next.
Ken, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Firelite Studios is a business founded by Aleks and Ken who came from the film industry. Our experience in producing, directing, editing, and writing gave us an edge when thinking of other ways we could offer our expertise to a broader audience than those just in the film industry.
From making feature and short films, we decided to move to the more commercial side of the business where we would offer photo and video services to brands and individuals who needed media to build their own businesses.
In short, we work with businesses and individuals to provide high-quality photography and videography specifically tailored to help them achieve their goals. We walk hand-in-hand with each client of ours through a thorough discovery process where we learn how we can effectively achieve success.
So whether someone needs a website media overhaul or a testimonial, we gather a comprehensive overview of what the client hopes to achieve and use this information to inform our media production.
We are most proud of our personal touch to each interaction we have with our clients. We are People people and enjoy helping others achieve their goals. During every step of the process, we always keep the client in mind to ensure they know we are right there with them.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Aleks and I met on the set of a movie he was producing back in 2019. I, Ken, was an actor in the film but had already been producing photography and videography work of my own. Through that experience, we got a sense of what it was like to work alongside one another. We could see the dedication we had for the craft of filmmaking and media production as a whole.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The film industry is not for the weak hearted. It is a rough industry to make a living in and quite volatile when compared to more traditional industries. This was made most apparent to us when starting Firelite and finding it difficult to be the producing company rather than just being freelancers. Early on, we had difficulty finding clients and having enough conversations with business owners about how we could provide our services. That period of time made us really hone in on our value proposition and what we brought to the table for business owners and even individuals.
