We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ken Gip. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ken below.
Ken, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have always loved cooking, since i was a kid. I have always dreamt of owning my own business. From all my experience and time in restaurant industry, I was able to put my knowledge to good use and finally create an amazing dinning experience at Shinobi. Here at Shinobi, I have created a menu that is for everyone. We only use fresh fish when preparing sushi for our guests. We also have options from those who are not entirely sushi lover, including hibachi entrees where only the best of the meat is used. When it comes to the ultimate dining experience, food pairing is highly important. With that being said, we have Japanese beers on tap, a wide selection of Japanese sake that we have imported from Japan, and our own signature cocktail menu.

Ken, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am passionate about cooking. When I came here to the United States in 2001, I started working in Japanese restaurants. I found great passion for the industry and ever since then I have always dreamt of owning my own restaurant. I have had the opportunity to work for other Japanese restaurants and I was able to acquire and obtain many skills throughout my work history. Over the last 20 plus years, I have applied those skills in creating my own menu, sauces, and recipes. I am proud to share my talent with all those who come in and enjoy my food.
I am proud to say that I make all my sauces from scratch and prepare all my fish daily in house.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I stay consistent when posting videos of my restaurant. I post at least once a week showing my customers the art and dedication behind running a sushi restaurant. For an example, I post videos of fresh fish being cut daily. I also highlight popular items that are a must try for my customers. My advice is to stay consistent with your posts and keep a good connection between you and your customers on social media.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
As a business owner, I show my dedication to my restaurant by being here 7 days a week, from open to close. I want my customers to see the passion I have for ensuring that my business is successful. I have created a team where we show our appreciation to our returning customers each time that they enter our establishment. Therefore, it has helped build my reputation as a business owner.
