We were lucky to catch up with Kemuel Pierre-Louis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kemuel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
There were several people that I looked up to growing up. My hero is my mother. She is very hard-working, passionate about her craft, and an excellent provider. Career-wise I looked up to Mr. Steven Spielberg whose work inspired me to take on a position as a Film Director when I was 13. I even found myself using the name K. Speilburg when I would make music videos with friends in school or in my neighborhood. Other famous Director heroes I took a personal interest in were Brina De Palma, James Cameron, Michael Bay, and Tyler Perry.
Kemuel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being the first generation Haitian Americans in our family, we had a hard time submitting to the newfound American culture that we were exposed to in the public school system. My eldest brother and I were raised in a very religious household with a single mother who worked to provide us with the bare necessities; We didn’t celebrate any holidays or participate in any celebrations unless it was church-related so it was hard to fit in (Seventh-Day Adventist). This led to us entertaining ourselves at home and eventually us being known as entertainers to the church members in our age group.
My mom raised us as a single parent before she remarried. She always told us to take school seriously so one day we could take care of her so that’s what gave me the drive to finish school. I started Sharp Pictures shortly after graduating. We strive to reach the mega studio standard here in south Florida with as we provide services in photography, video, audio engineering, and animation/3D projects.
My Baby Powder restaurant is geared towards serving clean meals to our crew on a project-to-project basis. The SDA diet is something that I take pride in and hope to share with every purchase.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
After college, I accepted a job teaching and am currently saving up for my business ventures. I was also involved in a severe car accident so the funds were used to pay off my medical bills and to help start the businesses.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It was like a happy accident. A couple of close friends started making comedy skits prior to college. It was literally an overnight success story once we checked our views so we continued on until I decided to learn movie making after high school.
