We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kemisha Cole a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kemisha, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Competition is one of the main obstacles to profitability in this sector. You must be able to locate reputable, ethical suppliers who can provide you with high-quality goods at reasonable costs for this sort of company to succeed. The market has declined since the COVID-19 virus first appeared. Since everyone is wearing a wig or weave, perhaps out of convenience, there is a demand on the market. Still, because of retail behemoths like Amazon and AliExpress, quality has taken a backseat to cost. I prefer to sell my customers high-quality goods. Simply put, my profit margins reduce while I try to stay afloat within the market by finding quality products at reasonable prices.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
‘KemDes’ I had the notion of launching my company since I was always hunting for high-quality hair extensions at reasonable pricing. Like most women, I enjoy getting my hair done, especially when I can do it on a budget. I wanted to buy a “good quality” weave, so I looked for suppliers that offered quality and reasonable pricing. Even though conducting research for months was frustrating at times, I persisted. I finally discovered bundles/wigs that were reasonably priced after corresponding with suppliers and inspecting samples for around four months. I began considering this a potential side business with all the information I learned from my investigation. At first, it was only family members, but as time passed, my friends began buying bundles and wigs, which is how KemDes started.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Modeling my own items is my most successful marketing tactic for expanding my customers. I always wear my stuff, which makes for excellent advertising.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
One of my best methods is frequently getting in touch with my clients. After a sale, I often phone the customer to see whether they are satisfied with the merchandise. I keep advising my clients whenever I have new or different things. I also provide additional savings to my regular clients.
