We were lucky to catch up with Kemila Zsange recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kemila thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
The best boss I’ve ever had is myself. I hope I’m not getting off the topic too much, but I wanted to answer this question as sincerely and truthfully as I can. I do enjoy working for myself. Before I started my private practice, I worked for very big and very small companies and taught in a college. I had many great bosses, but myself is the best boss I’ve had. I enjoy working for myself, the flexibility I negotiate with myself, and the support and understanding I get from this boss. I feel lucky this way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Fourteen years ago, out of curiosity, I signed up with a part-time hypnotherapy school. At the time, I had a full-time job, and I didn’t have the intention to change it. I just wanted to know how the subconscious mind works and figured the best way to learn it was to go to a hypnosis school which primarily teaches you how it works.
Fate would have it that at the time when I was graduating, I was laid off from my day job. Looking back, that synchronicity was my luck, so I could get onto this business full-time from day one. It was not easy. English is my second language, I had no psychology background. I had no previous business training or experience. But when I didn’t have much choice, all that was left was to keep going.
Looking back, it was all meant to be. In my second book: “Carol’s Lives”, I dedicated a whole chapter (“Onto the Promised Path”) to the pathway to becoming a hypnotherapist. Even though English is my second language, I know how not to take this language for granted and to use it to untwist my client’s twisted minds, therefore, get them out of the trance of suffering. Language itself can be extremely hypnotic. Even though I did not have a psychology background, my intense curiosity helped me want to get to the bottom of the root of everything. And even though I had no previous business experience, I actually discovered that courageous entrepreneurship in me through the process.
For the past seven years, I was rated one of the top three hypnotherapists in Vancouver, BC, and #3 of the top 25 Most Popular Health and Fitness Service Awards for 2021 and 2022. I attribute my success to my own passion and dedication, as well as to treating this helping profession as a business from day one. Energy needs to balance itself for anything to be sustainable. I have said the best boss I have worked with is myself. It feels fantastic when I can work on the creativity of people’s beautiful subconscious minds (even though sometimes they use it to create suffering), and continue to allow my curiosity to be the driving engine to tap into my clients’ inner wisdom.
Because of my own professional and career path, I have a great passion for helping people get onto their “promised path”. Nothing delights me more than seeing everyone doing what they love doing and making a fabulous living out of it.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
My school training brought me into the door. After that, all my clients have been my best teachers. I bring curiosity to my work, and I trust my own unconscious mind enough to be open to my clients’ unconscious minds. My clients always give me feedback, one way or another, on how to work with them. So I pay attention. And also, even though this is a helping profession, I treat it as a business, in which I allow energy to balance itself. I’m willing to go first, I’m willing to make mistakes, and I’m willing to ask for feedback. All these are helpful for succeeding in my field.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would choose the same profession and the same path. I would not change a bit of the choice and actions. The only thing I would change is to chill more and worry less. Everything worked out perfectly, even when I didn’t believe it and when I doubted. I couldn’t plan for how it worked out, but I could worry and struggle less.
But now I have more trust that everything will continue to work out.
