We recently connected with Kelvi Wilson and have shared our conversation below.
Kelvi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Kelvi Doviar Cosmetics wasn’t something I randomly decided to do—it came from a real place, a real need, and honestly, a lot of trial, error, and emotion.
I’ve always loved beauty—lip gloss, lashes, the whole thing. But what really stood out to me was how hard it was to find products that felt like they were made for me. Either the quality wasn’t there, the prices were too high, or the shades just didn’t hit the way I wanted them to—especially for women who look like me. I remember buying gloss after gloss, liner after liner, and still feeling like something was missing.
At some point, I stopped being just a customer and started thinking like a creator. I asked myself, “Why not make my own?” Not just to sell, but to create something that actually represents what I—and other women—are looking for: affordable, high-quality products that enhance your natural beauty and make you feel confident without doing too much.
The beginning wasn’t glamorous at all. It was late nights, researching, testing, investing money I wasn’t sure I’d get back, and figuring things out on my own. There were moments I questioned if it would even work. But what kept me going was the vision. I knew there were other women out there who felt the same way I did—who wanted that perfect gloss, that go-to lip combo, that reliable product they could count on.
What made this feel like a worthwhile endeavor wasn’t just passion—it was logic too. The beauty industry is always growing, but I noticed a gap: a lot of brands were either too expensive, inconsistent, or didn’t truly connect with everyday women. I knew I could build something relatable, something that felt personal. I wasn’t trying to compete with big brands—I wanted to connect with real people.
And that’s what excited me the most. The idea that someone could wear my products and feel more confident, more put together, more like themselves. That’s bigger than just makeup—it’s about how you show up in the world.
Kelvi Doviar Cosmetics became more than a business. It became a reflection of my creativity, my resilience, and my desire to build something meaningful—not just for me, but for my community too.
And the fact that I’ve been able to generate $15,000 in one year just confirmed what I felt from the beginning: this wasn’t just an idea—it was something real, something needed, and something that’s only going to keep growing.

Kelvi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kelvi, and I’m the owner of Kelvi Doviar Cosmetics. I’m a business owner, creator, and someone who turned a personal passion into something meaningful and profitable.
I got into the beauty industry from a very real place—I’ve always loved lip gloss, lashes, and anything that enhances natural beauty, but I often felt like I couldn’t find products that truly fit my needs. Whether it was the quality, pricing, or shades, something was always missing. That frustration is what pushed me to step outside of being just a consumer and become a creator.
Kelvi Doviar Cosmetics specializes in products like lip glosses, lip oils, lip liners, lash strips, and lip kits. Everything I offer is designed to be affordable, high-quality, and easy to use—products that help everyday women feel confident, put together, and सुंदर without needing a full glam look. My brand is for the girls who want that “effortless pretty” look.
The problem I solve is simple but important: I provide reliable beauty products that actually deliver. A lot of people are tired of spending money on products that don’t last, don’t show up well on their skin tone, or just don’t give the look they were expecting. I focus on consistency, quality, and creating shades and products that complement real people.
What sets me apart is my authenticity. I’m not a huge corporation—I’m someone who genuinely understands my customers because I am my customer. I test my products, I promote them myself, and I stand behind everything I sell. I also focus heavily on building a connection with my audience, not just selling to them.
What I’m most proud of is building my business from the ground up and generating $15,000 in one year. That showed me that my vision works and that people believe in what I’m creating. But beyond the money, I’m proud of the impact—every order, every message, every person who supports my brand means something to me.
I want potential customers and supporters to know that Kelvi Doviar Cosmetics is more than just makeup—it’s about confidence, growth, and showing up as your best self. I’m building something that represents real women, real beauty, and real hustle. And this is just the beginning
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One moment in my journey that really shows my resilience didn’t look like success at all—it looked like doubt, slow sales, and questioning everything I was doing.
There was a time early on in my business where I had invested money into inventory—lip glosses, lashes, packaging—really trying to take my brand seriously. I was excited, posting consistently, promoting, and expecting things to pick up quickly. But they didn’t. Orders were slow, engagement wasn’t where I thought it should be, and I started to feel discouraged.
I remember looking at my products and thinking, “Did I just waste my money? Is this even going to work?” That feeling hits different when it’s your own money, your own vision, and something you actually care about.
But instead of quitting, I shifted my mindset. I realized that just because things weren’t moving fast didn’t mean they weren’t moving at all. I started paying attention to what I could control—improving my content, learning how to market better, engaging more with my audience, and showing up even when I didn’t feel motivated.
I kept posting. I kept promoting. I kept believing in what I created, even on days it felt like nobody else did.
Then slowly, things started to change. A few orders turned into more orders. Support started growing. People began coming back, purchasing again, telling others. And that’s when it clicked for me—this wasn’t going to be an overnight success, but it was going to be worth it if I stayed consistent.
That moment taught me that resilience isn’t about never feeling discouraged—it’s about continuing anyway. It’s about choosing not to give up on something just because it’s not happening as fast as you expected.
Now when I look back, I’m grateful for that phase because it built discipline in me. It showed me that I can push through uncertainty and still come out on the other side with results.
That experience is a big part of why I am where I am today—and why I know this is only the beginning for me and my business.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots I had to make in my journey came when I realized that simply having good products wasn’t enough to grow my business—I had to completely change how I showed up.
In the beginning, I treated my business very “basic.” I would post my products here and there, maybe add a caption, and expect people to just buy because the products looked good. And while I did get some support, it wasn’t consistent. Sales would come in randomly, and I wasn’t building the kind of momentum I knew I wanted.
At first, I thought the issue might be my products. I questioned if I needed different shades, better packaging, or something new altogether. But when I really sat down and looked at it, I realized the real problem wasn’t what I was selling—it was how I was marketing and presenting it.
That’s when I made a pivot.
Instead of just posting products, I started showing experience. I began creating content where I actually used my products, showing lip combos, before-and-after looks, and how everything applied in real life. I started talking more, engaging more, and letting people see me behind the brand.
I also shifted my mindset from “just selling” to “building a brand.” I paid attention to consistency, visuals, captions, and connecting with my audience. I stopped waiting for people to find me and started putting my brand in front of them intentionally.
That change made a huge difference.
People weren’t just seeing a product anymore—they were seeing how it fit into their lives. They could imagine themselves using it. They trusted it more because they saw me using it.
That pivot taught me a powerful lesson: sometimes the issue isn’t what you’re offering, it’s how you’re delivering it. And being willing to step back, be honest with yourself, and adjust your approach can completely change your results.
That moment helped me go from inconsistent sales to building something that actually has growth and potential—and it’s a mindset I carry with me in every move I make now.
